Mary Magdalene is the Bible’s key witness to the most important event in history. Without her vision of a risen Jesus, there may never have been a Christianity. You have to make a distinction between Mary Magdalene, and Mary, the mother of Jesus.
She was a Jewish woman who, according to the four canonical gospels, traveled Jesus as one of his followers. She witnessed the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection.
The gospels mention her by name 12 times, more than most of the apostles and more than any other non-family woman.
