DocumentaryTube helps you find documentaries worth watching, and where to watch them. It is published by Yorker Media.
What is on DocumentaryTube
- The directory sorts documentaries by subject, decade, country and director, newest first. A film’s facts — year, running time, directors, countries, languages, awards — come from the open film record (Wikidata), its short description from its Wikipedia article, and its picture, which shows the film’s subject and is never a still from the film, from Wikimedia Commons with its author and licence. Each film’s page says where its facts came from and when they were read.
- Where to watch ranks the services that stream documentaries and teaching films on what each publishes about itself: plans, prices, free plans and trials, and where it can be watched. How DocumentaryTube ranks sets out the score.
- The Screening Room, DocumentaryTube’s blog, publishes guides to the best documentaries on a subject, reviews, and news from festivals and premieres, each with its author and the date it was published.
How films are shown here
DocumentaryTube does not host, upload or sell films. Where a page in The Screening Room shows a documentary, the player is embedded from YouTube, Vimeo or Dailymotion and plays the copy uploaded there; when that copy is taken down, it stops playing here too. If you hold the rights to a film embedded on DocumentaryTube and want it removed, write to us with the page’s address and we will take the embed down.
Corrections
If something on DocumentaryTube is wrong, write to us with the page’s address and the correction, with a source if you have one. Filmmakers, distributors and services can also claim the page DocumentaryTube has for them, free, to correct a fact.
How DocumentaryTube is paid
Pages carry advertising from Journey by Mediavine and Google AdSense, some links in The Screening Room are affiliate links, and filmmakers and services can buy a listing or a place on a list. The advertising disclosure and the affiliate disclosure set out each of these.
