To hide channels in YouTube TV, open Live, choose Sort, then Edit on the web or mobile app. Use each channel’s Hide control, or drag channels to rearrange them. Your changes are saved automatically.
On a television or streaming device, you must also select the Custom guide. Editing the lineup does not automatically switch the TV from Default, Most watched, A–Z, or another guide view.
What YouTube TV’s channel customization changes
YouTube TV lets you create a Custom Live guide that contains only the networks you want and places them in the order you prefer. You can hide individual networks, restore hidden networks, and reorder the visible list.

This customization applies to the Live tab and its guide. It does not cancel a channel, remove it from your subscription, block playback, or reliably prevent the network and its programs from appearing in Home recommendations. YouTube TV says recommendations can be influenced by popularity and viewing history. See YouTube TV’s guide-customization instructions.

The Settings route is available in the YouTube TV mobile app and in a web browser. Menu wording and layout can vary slightly by device or app version, but the key destination is Settings → Live guide. The official support page is available here.
Show the custom lineup on your TV
After editing the guide, open YouTube TV on your television or streaming device and switch the displayed guide to Custom:
- Open Live.
- Move to the guide selector immediately above the channel list, at the far left.
- Select the icon with three horizontal lines.
- Select Custom.
Your hidden channels and custom order appear only while Custom is selected. If the TV still shows every channel, it is probably displaying Default, Most watched, A–Z, or Z–A instead.

Why the phone and TV can look different
YouTube TV associates the Custom guide with the signed-in account or profile and reflects Live-tab preferences across devices. However, each device still has to be displaying the Custom view.

If your phone shows a shortened lineup but your television shows all networks, check these two things first:
- Guide view: Confirm that the TV is set to Custom, not Default or another sort option.
- Account or profile: Confirm that the TV and phone are signed in to the same YouTube TV account and profile.
Changing accounts on one device affects that device only. Separate family members should use their own YouTube TV profiles if they want independent recommendations, libraries, and Live-guide preferences. Google’s account-switching information is available at Switch accounts in YouTube TV.

New channels and add-ons may not appear automatically
If you already use a Custom guide, a newly added network or a linear-channel add-on may not be included automatically. To check:
- Open Profile photo → Settings → Live guide.
- Find the new network in the editor.
- Select Unhide, or otherwise include it in the Custom lineup.
- On the TV, confirm that the displayed guide is Custom.
New networks are commonly found near the bottom of the customization list and may be hidden in an existing Custom guide. An add-on that provides only on-demand programming, without a linear live network, cannot be added to the Live guide. Find that content through Home, Search, or search results instead.
Why some sports or 4K channels are missing
Some entries are overflow channels rather than continuously programmed networks. Support discussions have reported overflow entries associated with services such as BTN, NBC Sports, NFL Network, and some 4K channels.

You may be able to enable an overflow entry in the Custom guide, but it might not appear in the guide until programming is actually scheduled on it. A missing overflow channel therefore does not necessarily mean that customization failed. See the relevant YouTube TV support discussion.
What hiding a channel does not do
Hiding is a guide-organization feature, not an account or parental-control restriction. A hidden network can still be:
- Included in your YouTube TV plan.
- Opened through search or another entry point.
- Available for playback if your subscription includes it.
- Shown in Home recommendations.
- Represented by programs that appear in recommendations.
If your goal is to stop another viewer from accessing a network, hiding it from the Custom guide is not sufficient. It only keeps the network out of that particular guide view.

For the simplest browsing experience, edit the guide on your phone or browser and keep only networks you regularly watch. Put frequently used documentary, news, sports, or entertainment networks near the top, then switch every television and streaming device to Custom.
When a new channel is added, revisit Settings → Live guide. If it is not visible in Custom, look near the bottom of the editor and use Unhide. If it is an overflow entry, check whether a program is currently scheduled. If it is an on-demand-only add-on, look in Home or Search rather than the Live guide.
Common mistakes and fixes
| Problem | Likely explanation | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The TV still shows hidden channels. | The TV is using Default or another guide sort. | Open Live, use the guide selector, and choose Custom. |
| The custom lineup is missing on one device. | The device may use another account or profile. | Check the signed-in account and profile on both devices. |
| A new network is absent. | It may be hidden in the existing Custom guide. | Open Settings → Live guide and unhide it. |
| A sports or 4K entry does not display. | It may be an overflow channel with no scheduled programming. | Enable it if possible, then check when programming is scheduled. |
| A subscription add-on cannot be found in Live. | The add-on may be on-demand only. | Use Home or Search; on-demand-only content has no Live-guide entry. |
For additional examples of the current Hide and Unhide controls, consult this YouTube TV walkthrough. Interface details can change, so the labels visible in your account take priority.
