Apple’s one-minute Mac brand film “Great ideas start on Mac”, released on October 20, 2025, uses the recorded voice of the late Dr. Jane Goodall to frame creativity as the moment an idea first appears. It is not a MacBook launch commercial: no single model, price, chip, or feature is the focus.
Watch Apple’s “Great ideas start on Mac”
The approximately 60-second film opens with a blinking cursor on an otherwise blank screen. Goodall’s narration considers how stories, inventions, and other meaningful ideas can begin as “nothing,” before asking what the viewer sees in that first flicker of possibility.
The commercial then moves through people and teams engaged in creative, scientific, technological, and cultural work. Apple has distributed the campaign through YouTube, broadcast, out-of-home advertising, and social media, presenting it as a global brand platform for Mac rather than a conventional product demonstration.

What Jane Goodall says
Goodall’s narration describes the beginning of an idea rather than explaining a Mac feature. The voiceover moves from the blank screen to the possibilities that can follow: a story, an invention, or a new way of seeing the world. Her delivery gives the film a reflective, almost documentary-like tone.

Apple identifies the voice as that of the late Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE. She does not endorse a particular Mac model in the narration, and the available reporting does not establish her personal computing habits. Her role is philosophical and emotional, not technical.
Who appears in the commercial?
Trade coverage identifies several creators, organizations, and projects shown or referenced in the film, including:
- Bruce Strickrott, an ocean engineer;
- Indian fashion designer Ruchika Sachdeva;
- disability-rights activist Alice Wong;
- the team behind robotics company 1X Technologies; and
- the team associated with the Oscar-winning animated film Flow.
The montage also includes artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, filmmakers, scientists, and other makers. These are presented as examples of creative work; the available reports do not establish that every project was made entirely on a Mac or that every participant is a paid Apple spokesperson.

Why Jane Goodall matters to the message
Goodall brings associations with scientific discovery, curiosity, conservation, and decades of sustained work. That makes her a more meaningful choice for this message than a conventional celebrity endorsement: the ad connects creativity with observation, persistence, and discovery.
Her appearance also has historical significance for Apple. Campaign US describes Goodall as a returning “Think Different” figure. The campaign was released after her death, and the voice was recorded for the commercial, but the available reporting does not provide a precise recording date or detailed information about the authorization arrangement. It is therefore more accurate to call this a posthumous use of her recorded voice than to claim that Apple made the commercial after her death or that it was definitively her final advertisement.

A “Think Different” callback, not a formal relaunch
“Great ideas start on Mac” recalls the spirit of Apple’s famous “Think Different” campaign. Both associate Apple with people whose work changes culture, science, or everyday life, and both use notable figures to give the computer brand a larger creative identity.

This film focuses more closely on the start of the process: the cursor, the empty screen, the first idea, and the work required to turn possibility into something real. The comparison is a thematic and structural callback, not evidence that Apple has formally relaunched “Think Different.”
Is the ad promoting a specific Mac?
No. The film is a broad Mac campaign that includes the category’s laptops and desktop computers. It does not name a particular model, show a price, advertise a processor, or provide a retail call to action. As 9to5Mac reported, its timing overlapped with the arrival of Apple’s M5 MacBook Pro in stores, but that does not make the MacBook Pro the subject of the commercial.

That distinction matters. Apple is selling an association between Mac and creative possibility, not proving that a specific Mac is necessary for the work shown or technically superior to competing computers.

The official Apple upload and campaign title are “Great ideas start on Mac.” At least one trade account describes the end card as “Great ideas start here.” The two phrases express the same positioning but should not be treated as identical quotations. The first is the documented title; the second is a reported version of the closing copy.

The larger idea behind Apple’s campaign
Apple’s marketing communications chief Tor Myhren described the campaign as being about the origin of an idea and the people who create new ones. That makes the blank screen the film’s most important image. It is not a finished design, a benchmark, or a product specification. It is an invitation to imagine what might come next.
For Apple, that is a familiar but carefully updated form of brand positioning. The company is asking viewers to see Mac not simply as hardware, but as part of the transition from curiosity to creation. The commercial’s strongest claim is therefore emotional: Mac belongs at the beginning of ambitious work. Whether it is the right computer for a particular workflow remains a separate purchasing question.
