Based on Jared Diamond’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name, Guns, Germs and Steel Travel trace humanity over the last 13,000 years – since the dawn of agriculture at the end of the last Ice Age to the realities of life in the XXI century the first century. Inspired by a question asked on the island of Papua New Guinea more than thirty years, he embarks on a quest for diamonds in the world to understand the roots of global inequality.

Why were the Europeans who conquered much of our planet? Why not the Chinese, or the Inca, become masters of the world instead? Why evolve the first cities in the Middle East? Why farming never emerge in Australia? Why the tropics now the capital of global poverty?

As we peel the layers of history to discover the root causes, the environment in shaping the destiny of humanity, Diamond found both his theories and his own endurance tested.

The three one-hour programs were filmed across four continents in High Definition digital video, and combined with ambitious dramatic reconstruction moving documentary footage and computer animation. Also include contributions from Diamond himself and a wealth of international historians, archeologists and scientists.

Guns, Germs and Steel is a thrilling journey through the elemental forces that have shaped our world – and that continue to shape our future.
