The Alternativity is a remarkable documentary film that transports viewers to the city of Bethlehem – the epicenter of the international celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. This year, an extraordinary hotel opened in the city: Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel, which boasts having the worst view in the world – under the watchful eye of an Israeli watch tower, located in occupied Palestinian territories.
The city where Christmas was first celebrated now appears as a besieged fortress, lacking festive cheer. This is where director Danny Boyle was invited by artist Banksy to direct a nativity play unlike any other – and this is what The Alternativity sets out to document.
The documentary chronicles Boyle’s attempts to bring joy back to Bethlehem during a time of conflict, culminating with an unforgettable performance of his nativity play. Viewers can expect to experience a wide range of emotions as they observe Boyle’s efforts unfold – from hope and inspiration all the way down to sorrow and grief.
