EU president Juncker on tour in the Balkans

Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission, is about to embark on his most difficult mission yet. His four-day tour through the largely forgotten political powder keg of the western Balkans promises to be a tricky task for the experienced politician. States like Serbia and Albania are desperate to join the EU, and Juncker’s visit is being seen as a ray of hope. Could the EU finally be getting serious about membership?

Juncker wants to see things on the ground for himself, but with 40 years of political experience behind him, he knows only too well the challenges ahead. His aim is to encourage far-reaching reforms in the countries of the western Balkans to make sure they’re ready to join the EU. But what can he realistically promise? Who will he be forced to disappoint? These are the questions at the heart of a new documentary that delves into Juncker’s mission and the hopes and fears of the people of the western Balkans.
