Cambridge Analytica was a British political consulting firm which combined data mining, data brokerage, and data analysis with strategic communication during the electoral process.

The company was started in 2013 as an offshoot of the SCL Group. In 2018, the company was in the middle of the biggest data scandal. In April, Facebook revealed that Cambridge Analytica had access to more than 87 million users of the social media.

And the company used the data from those users to manipulate the elections in the United States. It was revealed that the company had harvested the personal data of users without their consent, and used it for political advertising purposes.
