An encounter with artist Shirin Neshat

Shirin Neshat – artist, filmmaker, photographer – is hailed as one of the most important voices of contemporary art. In “Looking for Oum Kulthum,” her second feature film, she shares with us an intimate portrait of arguably the most famous singer in the Arab world, one shrouded in mystery and wrapped in the mystique of legend. It is a moving and inspiring story of determination, resilience and the human spirit.

But Neshat’s journey is not just about her art; it is a personal struggle with cultural identity, insurmountable obstacles, and the forces that threaten to stifle creativity and crush human spirit. It is a story of exile, of a woman caught between two cultures and the struggle for liberation and emancipation. Neshat’s story is a must-see for those who seek inspiration, hope, and a deeper understanding of the world.
