Aggie becomes increasingly interested in Nile and begins investigating whether he may be a murderer. That central mystery makes the location important: the neighboring homes, streets, parks, businesses and estates create the closed, wealthy community in which suspicion can grow.

Where was The Beast in Me filmed?
Most of the series was filmed in New Jersey, particularly across northern and central parts of the state. Production was based at Mile End Stages in the Kearny Point Industrial Complex and used a mixture of real streets, parks, commercial properties, institutional buildings and private estates.
Principal photography was reported from September 2024 through late January 2025. Raleigh, North Carolina, was also used for additional production.
Officially identified New Jersey filming locations
The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission identified several locations used by the production:
- Blairsden Manor in Peapack & Gladstone
- G. Thomas DiDomenico 16th Street Park in Bayonne
- Branch Brook Park in Newark
- Downtown Red Bank
- Tamaques Reservation in Westfield
- Mile End Stages at the Kearny Point Industrial Complex, the production base
These locations do not mean that the characters’ story is set in New Jersey. They are real production sites used to represent the fictional Oyster Bay setting or to provide locations for individual scenes.
New Jersey locations reported in more detailed location coverage
Secondary location reporting identified additional sites across the state. These identifications should be treated as reported filming locations rather than proof that every site appears prominently or is named in the dialogue.

Was The Beast in Me filmed in Oyster Bay?
There is no confirmation in the available production information that the series was filmed in Oyster Bay. Oyster Bay is the fictional Long Island setting, while the documented filming activity is concentrated in New Jersey, with additional work in Raleigh.
This kind of substitution is common in television production. New Jersey offered a broad range of streets, town centers, parks, estates and industrial or institutional spaces that could be shaped into the show’s version of Long Island.

Netflix’s behind-the-scenes coverage reports that a construction-site sequence was filmed on a real New Jersey construction site. Matthew Rhys, who plays Nile Jarvis, underwent OSHA training to operate an external construction elevator used in the scene.

How the show creates its sense of place
The production’s visual approach helped turn its New Jersey locations into a tense, polished suburban world. Cinematographer Lyle Vincent described the intended look as “that classic 35mm film look.” The production also used split-diopter lenses and changing color palettes to create tension and distinguish the worlds of its central characters.
The result is a setting that feels cohesive on screen even though it was assembled from locations in multiple New Jersey counties and from additional production outside the state.

Why is it called The Beast in Me?
The title comes from a Johnny Cash song. Showrunner, executive producer and writer Howard Gordon connected the title with the characters’ and audience’s tendency to make assumptions, describing it as being about “all of our complicity.”
That idea fits the series’ central premise: Aggie is not simply observing Nile from a distance. As she investigates him, she becomes entangled in the same assumptions, suspicions and narratives that shape the thriller.
