For “Trump vs. Harris: how to watch U.S. election coverage for free,” viewers could use official CBS News, ABC News Live, PBS News, or NBC News NOW streams on websites, YouTube, apps, or local broadcast stations without cable. Election Day was November 5, 2024, so surviving pages in 2026 may be archives, not live feeds.
The most straightforward choices were official broadcaster websites and verified YouTube channels. Free access varied by platform, and local antenna reception depended on the viewer’s location and home.
Key takeaways
- CBS News offered free election coverage through CBSNews.com, YouTube, and the free CBS News app.
- ABC News provided ABC News Live and digital coverage, including more than 72 hours of election programming announced for 2024.
- PBS News scheduled live special coverage from 6 p.m. on November 5, 2024, with website updates beginning at 5:30 p.m.
- NBC News NOW carried an official election-night livestream on YouTube.
- Because Election Day was November 5, 2024, surviving pages and videos may now be archives rather than live feeds.
How could viewers watch Trump vs. Harris: U.S. election coverage for free?
The simplest option was an official broadcaster stream on YouTube or the broadcaster’s own website. Viewers could also use free news apps, ABC News Live, PBS’s website, local PBS stations, or NBC News NOW, depending on the device and coverage preference.
Official sources were the safest choice because election coverage was also copied by unofficial restreams, which could be incomplete, interrupted, misleading, or removed. The broadcaster links below document the 2024 viewing routes and should be treated as historical coverage pages now.

Where could you watch CBS News election coverage?
CBS News listed CBSNews.com, YouTube, and the free CBS News app as online ways to follow live election results and coverage of the 2024 vote. CBS News also distributed its 24/7 service through additional platforms, but availability could vary by device and service. CBS News’s 2024 viewing guide is the relevant official source.
CBS was a practical choice for viewers who wanted a conventional national-news stream without subscribing to cable or a live-TV bundle. Open the official CBS News website, the verified CBS News YouTube channel, or the CBS News app rather than relying on a third-party stream.
How did ABC News provide free election coverage?
ABC News announced ABC News Live and coverage across ABC’s digital properties, including its app, YouTube, and other connected-TV platforms. ABC’s official 2024 schedule described more than 72 hours of comprehensive election coverage. ABC’s 2024 election schedule documented the planned programming.
ABC News Live was suited to viewers who wanted a continuous digital news feed, while ABC’s local broadcast network was more relevant to people seeking station-based coverage. Some connected-TV or premium live-TV routes could require an account or subscription, so “ABC coverage” did not mean every distribution method was automatically free.

PBS News announced that its live 2024 election special coverage would begin at 6 p.m. on November 5, 2024. PBS NewsHour separately said that website updates would begin at 5:30 p.m. PBS’s election special announcement and the PBS NewsHour viewing guide provided those schedule details.
Viewers could watch through PBS.org, YouTube, or a local PBS station. The 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. times were specific to Election Day on November 5, 2024; they should not be treated as a recurring schedule or as a current livestream time.
Can you watch election night on YouTube?
Yes. CBS News, ABC News, PBS News, and NBC News NOW all documented or provided official YouTube-based access for the 2024 election. NBC News carried an official YouTube livestream titled “WATCH LIVE: Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris, NBC News Projects | NBC News NOW.” The NBC News NOW YouTube livestream is an example of the official election-night coverage available at the time.
For a reliable YouTube search, use the broadcaster’s verified channel and confirm that the video or channel is operated by CBS News, ABC News, PBS News, or NBC News. An unofficial channel using a network logo is not equivalent to the broadcaster’s official feed.

What app has free election coverage?
The CBS News app was explicitly identified as a free route for CBS coverage. ABC also offered coverage through its app, while PBS and NBC News NOW provided web and YouTube access documented in their official election materials.
| Viewer’s device | Most direct documented route | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Phone or tablet | CBS News app, ABC app, broadcaster websites, or YouTube | Use the official app or verified broadcaster channel |
| Computer | CBSNews.com, ABC digital properties, PBS.org, or YouTube | Archive status may replace a former live player |
| Smart TV | YouTube or a supported broadcaster/news app | Some connected-TV services may require an account |
| Television with no paid TV package | Local ABC, CBS, NBC, or PBS station through an antenna | Reception depends on location, building materials, placement, and signal strength |
How can you watch local election coverage without cable?
Viewers could use a local ABC, CBS, NBC, or PBS station if the station’s signal reached the home. An indoor TV antenna may help receive local broadcast coverage without a paid live-TV subscription, but antenna performance is location-dependent and no antenna can be guaranteed to work at every address.
Reception depends on geography, nearby transmitters, building materials, antenna placement, and local signal strength. PBS specifically directed viewers toward local PBS stations, while ABC’s election plan included broadcast-network distribution. Those facts support the antenna as an optional cord-cutting route, not as a promise of reception. PBS’s official coverage information describes the local-station route.
Did free coverage require cable or a live-TV subscription?
No, the documented CBS News, ABC News, PBS News, and NBC News NOW routes included free online or app-based access. However, distribution was not identical everywhere: certain connected-TV services or premium live-TV platforms could require an account or paid subscription.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the 2024 election coverage still live?
The 2024 U.S. presidential election is historical, not an upcoming election. Election Day was Tuesday, November 5, 2024, so pages and videos that remain available in 2026 may be recordings, explainers, or archived election-night coverage rather than active live feeds.
The original schedules and platform announcements remain useful for documenting where viewers could watch the Trump–Harris contest, but they do not guarantee that every player, stream, or app page is still available. Current viewers should check the broadcaster’s official website or verified channel for archive status.
