Aang and Katara had three children, in this order: Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin. Tenzin later had four children with Pema: Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. From oldest to youngest, Aang’s direct descendants shown in The Legend of Korra are Bumi → Kya → Tenzin → Jinora → Ikki → Meelo → Rohan.
Aang and Katara’s children
The first generation of Aang and Katara’s family consists of three children. Their birth order is established in family conversations and flashbacks in The Legend of Korra, particularly in Book Two episodes such as “Rebel Spirit” and “Civil Wars.”
- Bumi — oldest child and eldest son
- Kya — middle child and only daughter
- Tenzin — youngest child and youngest son
This means Kya is not Aang and Katara’s oldest child: Bumi is older than her, while Tenzin is the youngest. See the character references for Aang, Bumi, Kya, and Katara.

Bumi is Aang and Katara’s firstborn and oldest child. He was initially a nonbender, unlike his younger siblings. After the 171 AG Harmonic Convergence, Bumi unexpectedly gained airbending. This later development does not change his place in the family: he remains Aang and Katara’s eldest son.

2. Kya
Kya is the second child and the only daughter of Aang and Katara. She is a waterbender, continuing Katara’s bending tradition. Some reference materials call her Kya II to distinguish her from Katara’s mother, who was also named Kya, but the series generally calls her simply Kya.
3. Tenzin
Tenzin is Aang and Katara’s youngest child. He is the only one of the three siblings who was an airbender before Harmonic Convergence, making him the principal carrier of Aang’s airbending and Air Nomad legacy into the next generation.
Tenzin and Pema’s children
Tenzin married Pema, and they had four children. Their birth order, from oldest to youngest, is:

4. Jinora
Jinora is Tenzin and Pema’s oldest child and Aang’s oldest grandchild shown in the direct family line. She is an airbender who becomes an airbending master and plays a major role in the continuation of the Air Nomad tradition.

What the family order does—and does not—tell us
The exact age gaps are not confirmed
The series establishes the siblings’ relative order, but it does not provide officially confirmed exact birth years for Bumi and Kya. Frequently repeated claims that Bumi is exactly 10 years older than Kya, or that Kya is exactly four years older than Tenzin, should therefore be treated as estimates rather than stated canon. Those estimates are largely based on the family photograph and contextual clues.
Bumi’s later airbending does not make him younger than Tenzin
Bumi’s airbending appeared only after Harmonic Convergence. Tenzin was still the youngest of Aang and Katara’s three children, and the only sibling who had airbending before that event. Bending ability and birth order are separate facts.

The family timeline places Jinora’s birth in 160 AG, while Korra was born in 153 AG. That makes Tenzin’s children younger than Korra, even though they are the next generation of Aang’s family.
