What Sony announced at CES 2025
The January 6 presentation was best understood as a showcase of Sony’s wider entertainment and technology strategy rather than a traditional hardware keynote. The major announcements fell into five groups: mobility, professional content creation, sports production, entertainment IP, and demonstrations of emerging technology.
Afeela 1 was the biggest consumer-facing announcement
Sony Honda Mobility presented the Afeela 1, the electric vehicle developed by the Sony-Honda joint venture. Event coverage reported two trims: the Afeela 1 Origin at $89,900 and the Afeela 1 Signature at $102,900, with a reported $200 reservation fee.

Deliveries were discussed for 2026.
Those figures and terms belong to the January 2025 announcement. They should not be treated as current pricing, availability, reservation status, delivery timing, or regional eligibility. For current information, consult the official Sony Honda Mobility Afeela site.

XYN targets professional spatial-content production
Sony announced XYN, an integrated hardware-and-software solution for creating spatial content. Sony describes the platform as combining imaging and sensing technologies, displays, and proprietary algorithms to capture and reproduce objects, human motion, and backgrounds for 3D computer-graphics workflows.
In practical terms, XYN is aimed at creators, studios, animators, and production companies that need to turn real-world subjects into usable spatial or 3D assets. It is not a conventional retail gadget designed for the average home user.

XR, PXO Clara, and sports-production demonstrations
Sony demonstrated an XR headset prototype connected with its XYN animation and spatial-production system. The demonstration showed how a real-world object could be captured with a mirrorless camera and converted into a 3D asset. The evidence supports describing this as a prototype and production demonstration—not as a confirmed retail headset or a commercially released Vision Pro competitor.
The company also highlighted PXO Clara, a vehicle-visualization system for film and production work. Like XYN, PXO Clara belongs primarily to the professional production category rather than the consumer-electronics market.

Sports entertainment was another major theme. Sony discussed imaging and broadcast technology with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, including camera use in sports and news photography. The presentation also included a coach headset prototype planned for the 2025 season. That headset was presented as a technology demonstration, not as a general retail product.
Film, anime, gaming, and music announcements
Sony used the event to connect its PlayStation, Sony Pictures, anime, music, and other entertainment businesses. Announcements and confirmed topics included:
- An anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.
- A new Crunchyroll Manga app.
- The release month for season two of The Last of Us.
- A film adaptation of Helldivers 2.
- Additional Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, anime, and music initiatives.
- A LEGO Horizon Adventures music-video project involving mxmtoon.
These announcements reinforced the event’s central message: Sony was presenting entertainment properties and the technology used to create, distribute, and experience them, rather than simply launching a new set of televisions, headphones, cameras, or PlayStation hardware.

Despite the original live-event framing around Sony’s “latest gadgets,” the press conference was not primarily a consumer-product launch. There was no major new PlayStation hardware reveal at the center of the event, and the XR headset was not established as a shipping retail product.
Readers looking specifically for new Sony TVs, cameras, headphones, or gaming hardware should treat this presentation as a strategy and technology showcase, not as a complete CES buying guide. The most directly consumer-facing hardware announcement was Afeela 1, while XYN, PXO Clara, and the headset demonstrations were aimed at professional or specialized workflows.

Do not confuse the Sony conference with the separate Afeela event
Sony’s main press conference took place on January 6, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PT. Sony Honda Mobility held a separate Afeela press conference on January 7, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. PT.
The two events are related, but they are not the same presentation. The January 6 Sony event introduced Afeela 1 as part of a broader Sony showcase; the January 7 event focused specifically on Afeela. The original event coverage is available through Engadget’s watch guide.
The bottom line
Sony’s CES 2025 press conference was not a typical gadget-heavy keynote. Afeela 1 was the most significant consumer-facing announcement, but the broader presentation was about linking Sony’s entertainment properties with professional production tools, sports technology, spatial computing, mobility, and new film, anime, music, and gaming projects.
For the full presentation, use Sony’s official replay above. For current Afeela information, check Sony Honda Mobility directly rather than relying on the historical prices and reservation details announced in January 2025.
