Run Terry Run, Sean Menard’s feature-length documentary about Terry Fox’s 1980 Marathon of Hope, is listed for Canadian release on October 9, 2026. A secondary report says it will open on more than 150 screens and describes that as the widest Canadian theatrical opening for a non-concert documentary since Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004. That historical superlative is attributed to the distributor in the report; it is not independently established by the available official listing.

That is a reported distributor claim, not a confirmed industry-wide record. Elevation Pictures’ listing confirms the release date but does not state the screen count or historical ranking. The comparison is specifically about a theatrical opening for a non-concert documentary; it should not be read as a claim about every documentary, the number of screens over a film’s full run, or total audience.
What footage does the documentary use?
The Terry Fox Foundation says the filmmakers had special access to the Fox family archives and drew on 96 reels of previously unseen footage and unheard audio interviews. The Foundation describes the film as taking viewers inside the van and onto Canadian roads with Fox and his team.

The Terry Fox Foundation announced an advance screening at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall on November 10, 2025, with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra performing the score live. Proceeds from that special event were to support cancer research through the Foundation. It was a distinct event, not the film’s later Canadian theatrical opening.
