The target is Greg Simmonds, a billionaire international arms broker with a particular interest in Danny’s celebrity. Fortune’s team uses the actor as an undercover access point, creating the movie’s central comic contrast. On one side are professional spies trying to prevent a global weapons deal; on the other is a self-involved movie star suddenly expected to participate in a dangerous international operation.
The setup takes the team through espionage, celebrity infiltration, international travel and action set pieces. Yes, if you want a straightforward adult spy-action movie led by Jason Statham and shaped by Guy Ritchie’s comic sensibility. The film is a particularly reasonable choice for viewers who enjoy ensemble capers, celebrity-based undercover plots, Hugh Grant’s comic villain performances or action movies that do not demand extensive franchise knowledge.
Expecting a tightly realistic espionage drama or a new Snatch is likely to produce a less favorable reaction. The critical score reflects that it does not reach the genre’s highest standard.
