From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is currently streaming with a subscription on HBO Max in the United States. If you already have HBO Max, search for Ballerina (2025) and press play. If you only want to watch this one movie, a digital rental starting at about $3.99 is usually the cheaper option than starting a new monthly subscription.
U.S. availability and prices checked August 10, 2026. Streaming rights, prices, plan names, and channel availability can change.
Where to watch Ballerina right now
The simplest current U.S. answer is HBO Max. The movie is listed in the service’s subscription catalog, so you do not need to rent it separately if it is available in your account and region.
HBO Max’s current U.S. monthly plans are listed as $9.99 for Basic with Ads, $16.99 for Standard, and $20.99 for Premium. Those prices come from HBO Max’s official plan information; check the service before subscribing because pricing and plan availability may change.
JustWatch’s U.S. listing, checked August 10, 2026, also shows these routes:
#1 Best Overall
- A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.
- HBO Max: The clearest direct subscription option.
- HBO Max through Prime Video Channels: A separate HBO Max channel subscription—not a benefit automatically included with a standard Amazon Prime membership.
- Starz through Apple TV Channels: A channel add-on that may be available to subscribers through Apple’s channel system. It does not mean the film is included with Apple TV+ itself.
- YouTube TV: Listed as a current provider, although access may depend on your YouTube TV package, premium add-ons, account, and location.
HBO Max can also be purchased through several third-party billing platforms, including Prime Video Channels, the Apple App Store, Google Play, Roku, and Xfinity. The official HBO Max help page lists the supported provider arrangements. If you subscribe through one of those services, manage and cancel the subscription through that billing provider rather than assuming the direct HBO Max app controls it.
Important: Do not interpret a Prime Video search result as meaning Ballerina is free with Prime. Prime may be displaying a rental, a purchase, or a separate HBO Max channel subscription.
Quick comparison: subscription, rental, purchase, or disc
| Option | Current U.S. indication | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| HBO Max Basic with Ads | $9.99/month | Viewers who want this and other HBO Max titles | The movie is included in the subscription catalog when available. Confirm it appears in your app before subscribing. |
| HBO Max Standard | $16.99/month | Regular HBO Max viewers who want the higher-tier features | More expensive than a one-time rental if Ballerina is the only title you plan to watch. |
| HBO Max Premium | $20.99/month | Households that need the premium plan’s features | Do not assume the movie itself is available in 4K on HBO Max without a current title-specific listing. |
| Digital rental | From about $3.99; some 4K listings around $5.99 | Someone who wants to watch once or twice | Price, retailer, resolution, rental period, and taxes vary. |
| Digital purchase | About $19.99 in current listings | Repeat viewing without adding a subscription | Store terms apply, and the purchase remains tied to the retailer’s account and platform. |
| DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K UHD | Released September 9, 2025; price varies | Collectors and viewers who want a disc independent of streaming licenses | Edition, retailer, included extras, and video/audio specifications differ. |
| Free legal streaming | None currently listed | Viewers looking for a no-cost option | JustWatch currently reports no free legal streaming provider in the U.S. |
The rental and purchase figures are observed prices rather than permanent universal prices. Current listings show rentals at approximately $3.99, some 4K rentals at about $5.99, and purchases around $19.99. Check the final checkout screen for the retailer, video quality, taxes, and any promotion. Apple’s listing is one example of a storefront page for the film.
Which option is cheapest?
There are three straightforward choices:
- Already subscribe to HBO Max? Watch it there at no additional charge, provided it appears in your catalog.
- Only want this movie? Rent it digitally. A rental beginning around $3.99 is less than the $9.99 entry-level HBO Max plan, unless you also plan to watch other shows and movies during the month.
- Want to watch it repeatedly? A digital purchase around $19.99 may make more sense than several rentals. A Blu-ray or 4K UHD edition is the better collecting option if you prefer physical media and want access that is not dependent on the film remaining in a particular streaming catalog.
A free trial or introductory offer can temporarily lower the cost of a subscription, but trials and promotions are provider-specific and change frequently. A trial is not the same thing as a free streaming release, and you may be charged when the promotional period ends.
Why older articles say Starz
The phrase “finally streaming” needs a date attached to it. Ballerina first arrived as a subscription-streaming title on Starz on September 25, 2025. At the time, coverage described Starz as the exclusive streaming destination. That wording was accurate for the initial Starz window, but it is not the best current description.
The film later debuted on HBO Max in the U.S. on March 27, 2026, and HBO Max is now the clearest direct subscription answer. Current listings still show a Starz Apple TV Channel route, so viewers who already pay for Starz through Apple TV or another channel package should check that provider’s app. However, the current listing does not necessarily mean the movie is available through every standalone Starz billing arrangement.
Availability trackers do not always show identical results. For example, Reelgood reported HBO Max, Starz, and Philo availability as of March 27, 2026, while the current JustWatch listing shows HBO Max, HBO Max Amazon Channel, Starz Apple TV Channel, and YouTube TV. Differences can result from catalog indexing, channel packaging, account type, geography, or the time each service was checked.

The home-release timeline
The movie’s path from theaters to streaming explains why search results can appear contradictory:
- June 6, 2025: U.S. theatrical release.
- July 1, 2025: Premium digital rental and purchase release.
- September 9, 2025: DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD release.
- September 25, 2025: Starz subscription-streaming debut.
- March 27, 2026: HBO Max U.S. streaming debut.
- August 10, 2026: HBO Max remains the clearest current U.S. subscription-streaming option.
The original digital and Starz dates were reported by Tom’s Guide. The September 9 physical-media date is also listed by Target, and the HBO Max debut was reported by ComingSoon.
How to find the correct movie
Search for Ballerina (2025) or the full title From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. There are several unrelated films called Ballerina.
The film covered here is the Ana de Armas-led John Wick spin-off. A 2023 Korean action film also called Ballerina is associated with Netflix in some territories, and older documentaries and animated films use the same title. The U.S. JustWatch page uses a URL slug containing “ballerina-2024,” but the page identifies this title as Ballerina (2025). If a search result shows a different cast, synopsis, poster, or year, it is probably the wrong movie. The separate JustWatch page for the 2023 film illustrates the distinction.
How to press play without subscribing to the wrong service
- Confirm the title: Look for Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro and the “From the World of John Wick” branding.
- Check HBO Max first: Search inside the app or on the service’s current U.S. catalog. Streaming licenses can change even after a title has been added.
- Compare the one-time price: If you do not want HBO Max, use the current JustWatch price comparison to identify available rental and purchase retailers.
- Check the billing route: If you use Prime Video, Apple TV Channels, or YouTube TV, verify whether access requires a premium-channel add-on. A standard Prime membership or Apple TV+ subscription alone should not be treated as proof of access.
- Choose the format: Digital listings include 4K options in some stores. Apple’s listing identifies Dolby Atmos audio, but actual resolution and sound depend on the retailer, title encoding, subscription tier, device, connection, and compatible equipment.
What is Ballerina about?
Ballerina follows Eve Macarro, played by Ana de Armas, a ballerina trained in the Ruska Roma assassin tradition. After her father’s death, Eve pursues revenge while becoming involved with the criminal underworld that John Wick fans know from the main series.
The story takes place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum. It connects Eve’s journey to Winston, the Director, John Wick, and other figures from the franchise. The official Lionsgate trailer establishes Eve’s training and the film’s place in the John Wick universe.
Principal cast and credits
- Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro
- Keanu Reeves as John Wick
- Ian McShane as Winston
- Anjelica Huston as the Director
- Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor
- Norman Reedus as Daniel Pine
- Lance Reddick as Charon
The film was directed by Len Wiseman and distributed by Lionsgate. Apple’s U.S. listing and Rotten Tomatoes’ film page provide the listed cast and production details.

Rating and runtime
This is not a family movie. Ballerina is rated R for strong, bloody violence throughout and language. Its listed runtime varies slightly by platform: Apple gives 2 hours 4 minutes, Rotten Tomatoes gives 2 hours 5 minutes, and JustWatch gives 2 hours 6 minutes. Plan on about two hours and five minutes; the variation may reflect platform metadata or regional versions. Apple’s listing includes the rating, content advisory, and runtime information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhere does it fit in the John Wick viewing order?
For a first-time viewer, the most coherent order is:
- John Wick
- John Wick: Chapter 2
- John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum
- From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
- John Wick: Chapter 4
Ballerina does not fit into a completely isolated slot between two films. Its story overlaps the events of Chapter 3—Parabellum and moves toward the period before Chapter 4. Watching it after Chapter 3 makes the High Table, Ruska Roma, Winston, the Director, and the franchise’s rules easier to follow, while watching Chapter 4 afterward preserves the broadest continuity.
You can watch the spin-off on its own, but the returning characters and world-building will have more context after the first three films. The Continental is optional: it is a separate prequel television series, not required viewing for Ballerina, which is the franchise’s first official feature-film spin-off. What to Watch’s viewing guide also distinguishes the series from the movie.
Availability outside the United States
The HBO Max answer above is specifically for the U.S. Streaming rights vary by country, and a service that carries the film in one market may not carry it in another. Current country-specific listings provide useful examples: the U.K. page shows Amazon Prime Video and digital-store options, while the India page shows Prime Video and rental options.
If you are traveling or live outside the U.S., use the JustWatch page for your country and then confirm the result inside the provider’s app. Do not assume that a U.S. HBO Max, Starz, or Prime Video listing applies to your location.
One last theater-listing warning
Some availability pages may still display a cinema-ticket section. That does not necessarily mean the movie is currently playing. Box Office Mojo records the theatrical run as ending July 24, 2025, so check a local theater directly before making plans rather than relying on a stale tracker entry. For home viewing, HBO Max is the current answer as of the date checked.

Reception: well-reviewed, but “hit” needs context
Ballerina is best described as a high-profile, well-reviewed spin-off rather than assuming that “hit” means it performed like the mainline John Wick films. The current Rotten Tomatoes page lists a 75% Tomatometer score and a 92% Popcornmeter audience score. The Associated Press reported that the film received good reviews and strong audience exit-poll results, while its opening was below that of most of the main John Wick series. Critical reception, audience response, and box-office performance are separate measures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Ballerina free with HBO Max?
It is included with an HBO Max subscription when the title is present in the U.S. catalog, so there is no separate rental charge. HBO Max itself is not a free service; its listed U.S. plans start at $9.99 per month with ads. Availability can change.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIs Ballerina still on Starz?
The movie originally premiered on Starz on September 25, 2025. Current listings show a Starz Apple TV Channel option, but channel and standalone-app availability can differ. HBO Max is the most straightforward current U.S. subscription option.
Can I watch Ballerina with a regular Amazon Prime membership?
Not necessarily. Prime Video may offer the film as a paid rental or purchase, or show it through a separate HBO Max channel subscription. A standard Amazon Prime membership alone should not be treated as including the movie.
Is this the same Ballerina as the 2023 Korean movie?
No. This article covers the 2025 Ana de Armas film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Check the year, cast, and franchise branding before pressing play.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: If you already have HBO Max, watch Ballerina there. If you only want this one R-rated action movie, rent it digitally for roughly $3.99 rather than starting a new subscription. For repeat viewing, compare the approximately $19.99 digital purchase with the available Blu-ray or 4K UHD editions. No free legal U.S. streaming option is currently listed, and Starz availability should be treated as a channel-specific possibility rather than the current exclusive home.
