Apple Music works on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through a native console app, where you can sign in, play a playlist, and continue listening while gaming. Find Apple Music in the Microsoft Store, sign in with the Apple Account tied to your subscription, then use the Xbox Guide to reach playback controls. Availability can vary by country or region, as Apple’s platform listing notes.
What you need
- An Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X with internet access and access to the Microsoft Store.
- An Apple Account and an active Apple Music subscription, eligible trial, or plan that includes Apple Music. The Xbox profile and Apple Account are separate; they do not need to use the same email address.
- A phone with internet access if you prefer QR-code sign-in. You can also enter your account details using the controller.
Apple says the app must be supported on the device and available in the user’s region. Its general console instructions describe both QR-code and manual sign-in: Apple’s setup guide. For subscription details, see Apple’s subscription support page.
Install Apple Music on Xbox
- Turn on the Xbox and sign in to the Xbox profile you want to use.
- Open the Microsoft Store on the console.
- Search for Apple Music and select the official app published by Apple.
- Choose Get, Install, or the equivalent button currently shown in the Store.
- When installation finishes, open the app from its Store page, My games & apps, or the Home screen.
- Choose the sign-in option shown in the app.
Store navigation and button labels can change, so the exact wording may differ between consoles or software versions. Do not confuse the Xbox console app with Apple Music for Windows or with Apple TV; they are separate apps.
Sign in to your Apple Account
Use the QR code
- In Apple Music on Xbox, choose the option to sign in and display the QR code.
- Scan it with your phone’s camera, then follow the Apple sign-in and authorization prompts.
- Return to the Xbox app after the authorization completes.
Enter your details with the controller
- Choose manual sign-in in the Xbox app.
- Enter the email address and password for the Apple Account that has Apple Music access.
- Complete any verification or authorization prompt, then wait for your library and recommendations to load.
If you have two-factor authentication enabled, check your trusted Apple device for a pending verification prompt. If the QR code fails, try manual sign-in or restart the app to generate a fresh code.

Play a song or playlist
- In Apple Music, open a section such as Home, Listen Now, Browse, Library, or Search. Names and layout may vary by app version.
- Choose an album, artist, station, playlist, or song, then select Play.
- Check that audio is coming through your intended output: TV speakers, headset, receiver, or another connected device.
A new sign-in can take time to sync. If a playlist is missing, search for it directly, restart Apple Music, and check that you signed in with the same Apple Account used to create or save it. A playlist shared with another Family Sharing member, or one tied to a different account, may not appear in your library.
Keep Apple Music playing while you game
- Start a song, album, or playlist in Apple Music.
- Press the Xbox button on your controller.
- Return to Home or launch the game you want to play.
- While playing, press the Xbox button again to open the Guide and look for the current music app’s playback controls.
Xbox’s background-music guidance describes returning to a game and using the Guide to adjust playback: Xbox Wire’s background-music instructions. That guidance predates the current Apple Music app, so specific labels and available controls can differ. Many games allow background music, but behavior is not identical in every game or system-software version.

Balance music against game audio
- Use the Xbox Guide audio mixer, when available, to adjust the music/game balance.
- Use the game’s own audio settings to change its music, effects, dialogue, or master volume.
- Check any hardware volume controls on your headset or receiver. The mixer’s behavior can differ depending on how the headset is connected.
If Apple Music appears to be playing but you hear no music, check the Guide mixer first: its music level may be reduced relative to game audio. An Apple Support Community example describes this slider-based troubleshooting: Apple Community audio-mixer discussion.
Fix common Apple Music problems on Xbox
The app is missing from the Microsoft Store
- Search the exact phrase Apple Music in the Store and confirm you are looking for the official Apple app.
- Check the console and account region; Apple says console-app availability can differ by country or region.
- Restart the Xbox, install any pending system updates, then reopen the Store.
- If the app remains unavailable, use Apple Music on another supported device or the web player where available. Do not install unofficial lookalike apps.
Sign-in works but the library is empty
- Confirm that the Xbox app and the device where the library was created use the same Apple Account.
- Check that the subscription is active and allow time for the first library sync.
- Search for the playlist or song manually. Content availability can vary by region, and a purchase, subscription track, or locally imported file may behave differently.
There is no sound
- Press the Xbox button and open the music app card or Guide audio controls.
- Check the music/game balance and raise the music level if needed.
- Verify the Xbox output device and the headset, TV, receiver, or adapter volume.
- Pause and resume playback, then test another song.
- Quit and relaunch Apple Music; if needed, restart the console.
Music stops when a game starts
- Start playback again before launching the game, then see whether the issue occurs in another game.
- Lower or disable the game’s own music if it interferes with background listening.
- Restart Apple Music or the console and check for app updates in the Microsoft Store.
- If only one game causes the problem, its audio behavior may be the limiting factor.
Can you control Xbox playback from an iPhone?
Do not assume Apple Music on Xbox offers a Spotify Connect-style phone remote. The supported Xbox workflow is to navigate and control playback in the console app and Guide; phone-based control may be limited. AirPlay or ordinary Bluetooth audio routing should not be treated as a standard way to send Apple Music to the Xbox.

Does Apple Music on Xbox support lossless audio or Dolby Atmos?
Apple advertises lossless audio and Spatial Audio as service features, but that does not establish that the Xbox app delivers them in every setup. Output depends on the app, Xbox audio path, track, and connected equipment; verify Xbox-specific support rather than assuming the full lossless or Dolby Atmos experience. If those features are essential, consider another supported device such as a compatible Apple TV, smart TV, Windows PC, or phone.

An older Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Apple Music promotion was announced on November 16, 2022; that announcement is historical, not proof of a current offer. See Xbox Wire’s announcement. Apple Music for Windows is also available, but it is a PC option rather than an Xbox installation method: Apple’s Windows-app information.
