YouTube Studio lets you schedule individual live streams and reuse settings from a previous event, but its documented workflow does not provide an automatic recurrence rule. To run a weekly or monthly series, schedule each occurrence separately, then choose a caption method for each event: eligible English streams can use automatic captions at normal latency, while other productions can use compatible embedded captions or supported caption software.
Schedule each occurrence separately
YouTube’s scheduling tools let you publish an upcoming event page so viewers can visit the stream URL, set a reminder, or select “Notify me.” For a recurring series, create a new event for every date rather than assuming that scheduling one stream will create future episodes.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Select Manage, then Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new or Reuse settings from a previous stream. Reuse can copy metadata, settings, and the stream key; it does not remove the need to check the new event’s details.
- For the new occurrence, confirm the title, description, privacy, date and time, caption source, and encoder configuration. Check the stream key before connecting your encoder.
- At broadcast time, start the encoder and confirm its preview appears in Live Control Room. Select Go live when the preview and stream are ready.
See YouTube’s instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder and managing live stream settings.
Choose a caption method
Caption availability depends on the stream setup and, for automatic captions, channel eligibility and rollout. Choose the source before the event, then verify that captions actually appear in the stream preview.

| Method | Best fit | Requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic captions | Eligible English streams where professional captions are unavailable | Normal latency; availability is subject to YouTube’s rollout and the account’s current interface. Live automatic captions do not remain on the video after the stream ends. |
| Embedded 608/708 captions | Productions whose encoder and caption source can send compatible embedded caption data | Enable Closed captions in stream setup and choose Embedded 608/708. YouTube’s documented workflow currently supports one caption track. |
| Supported caption software over HTTP | Productions using compatible caption software or a captioner feed | Enable captions in stream setup, copy the signed captions ingestion URL, and provide it to the caption software or captioner. Each stream entry point has one caption feed. |
Automatic captions for eligible English streams
In the settings for the individual stream, open Stream settings, enable Closed captions, and select Automatic captions. YouTube describes this option for English streams at normal latency when professional captions are unavailable. Because eligibility and rollout may change, check the current stream controls for the channel you will use.
These captions are for the live event; YouTube says they do not remain on the video after the stream ends. The VOD caption process creates new captions, which may differ. If accurate captions must be available on the archive, plan and verify the post-stream caption workflow separately. YouTube explains the feature in its guidance on automatic captioning.

Embedded 608/708 captions
In the stream’s setup settings, turn on Closed captions and select Embedded 608/708. Configure the encoder and caption source to send EIA 608/CEA 708 captions. This option depends on compatible equipment and a working caption signal; selecting it in Studio alone does not create captions.
Caption software over HTTP
Enable captions in the stream setup and copy the signed captions ingestion URL for the event. Give that URL to the captioner or supported software, and confirm that the feed reaches the correct stream entry point. YouTube recommends an accurate system clock and documents adding a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay for this workflow.

Prepare a recurring series without carrying forward mistakes
Reusing settings saves setup work, but copied values can be wrong for the next date. Treat each scheduled event as a distinct broadcast and review the fields that affect viewers and the live feed.

- Set the correct title, description, visibility, date, and start time, then check the event’s watch page.
- Review the reused stream key and encoder setup before connecting. Confirm that the caption source selected in Studio matches the signal the encoder or caption software will send.
- Test representative speech, audio, and movement. Confirm the caption signal appears in Live Control Room’s preview rather than relying only on the configuration being enabled.
- For encoder events, YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours beforehand and starting encoders at least 15 minutes before the event. Use the available lead time to check preview and stream health before selecting Go live.

Automatic captions are not available
Check whether the stream is English and set to normal latency, then review the current account’s Stream settings. YouTube describes availability as limited to eligible channels while the feature rolls out; if the option is unavailable or unsuitable, configure an embedded or HTTP caption feed instead.
Captions are enabled in Studio but do not appear
Check that the selected source matches the actual production: the encoder must send compatible 608/708 data for embedded captions, or the supported software must send captions to the signed URL for HTTP delivery. Confirm the correct event and stream entry point are in use, then check the preview.
Captions appear late or do not align
For the HTTP workflow, check the system clock and review YouTube’s guidance on a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay. Recheck the caption feed and preview before the event begins.
Live captions are missing from the archived video
YouTube says automatic live captions do not persist as those captions after the stream ends; the VOD caption process creates a separate caption result. Check the archive after processing and use a separate captioning workflow if the final video requires a particular caption track.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the recurring event is a loop of prerecorded documentary footage rather than a live presentation, StreamNeo can keep that uploaded video live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. A computer at home does not have to stay on; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
