The headline “My favourite Google site of December is now live with lots of Santa games and fun” described the launch of Google Santa Tracker on December 1, 2023—not a confirmed 2026 launch. Google’s seasonal site combines a Santa-themed village, casual games, videos and, around Christmas Eve, an animated tracker. The official site is santatracker.google.com; as of August 18, 2026, the available official page confirms browser and JavaScript requirements but does not confirm that this year’s village or game lineup is live.
What is Google Santa Tracker?
Google Santa Tracker is a seasonal web experience that mixes Christmas entertainment with a map-style Santa journey. Google says the project began in 2004, and its activities have changed across editions. In past years, the site has included a North Pole village, minigames, animated videos and stories, coding and geography activities, and resources for families and teachers. Google’s account of the project describes that year-to-year evolution.

It is useful to think of it as two things: a collection of seasonal activities to explore during December and a Christmas Eve tracking experience. The tracker is a festive simulation, not real-world aviation data or evidence of Santa’s literal location.

The 2023 T3 headline referred to that year’s seasonal launch. It should not be read as news that a new edition is live today. The official site currently points to a browser-support page if the experience cannot run, which says a modern browser with JavaScript is required. It does not establish a 2026 launch date, game list or daily unlock schedule. Check Google’s current site for any seasonal launch announcement.

Google normally centers the live Santa journey on Christmas Eve. Historical editions have used dates around December 23–24 depending on time zone, but that history is not a confirmed schedule for 2026. Check the official site when this year’s experience appears for its timing and instructions.
What can you play?
The exact menu varies by year, so older examples are a guide to the kind of content Google has offered—not a promise that those games remain available. Google has documented activities such as:
- Code Boogie: Arrange patterns or sequences to teach elves a dance, introducing basic coding ideas.
- Elf Maker: Design a custom elf.
- Santa’s Canvas: Make festive artwork.
- Snowball activities: Play virtual snowball games or take part in a snowball-themed challenge.
- Videos, stories and holiday activities: Explore short seasonal content, sometimes including geography or traditions from around the world.
Older editions also included platform-specific activities such as Santa Snap and Present Quest on Android. Those historical releases do not show that either game is available in the current edition. Google’s past feature announcements offer examples of how the village has changed: Santa’s Village activities and learning resources and another seasonal lineup.
T3’s December 2023 report described games involving launching presents onto boats, a keyboard-controlled jetpack elf, matching pairs behind festive windows and a timed hidden-object-style “Search For Santa” activity. How to use the site
- Open Google Santa Tracker directly in a current browser.
- Make sure JavaScript is enabled; the interactive experience may not work without it.
- Choose an available village activity, game, video or story. The menu and access to particular activities can change by edition.
- Return around Christmas Eve for the year’s tracker instructions. Do not assume a historical start time or route applies to the current year.
- On a phone or tablet, use a current browser and check each activity’s instructions. Mobile support can vary, and older Android-only features may not be part of the current site.
The browser experience is the clearest starting point. Google has supported different combinations of web, mobile and other platforms in past editions, but that does not mean every game works on every device today. Do not assume there is a current standalone Google Santa Tracker app without checking an official listing.
If the site will not load
A browser-support message or a game that fails to start can have several causes: an outdated browser, disabled JavaScript, a script-blocking extension, an embedded browser that does not support the experience, or filtering on a school, workplace or family network.
- Open the site in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox rather than inside a social-media app.
- Update the browser and confirm JavaScript is enabled.
- Try a private window. If that works, an extension or saved site setting may be interfering.
- If needed, temporarily disable the relevant blocker for this site only, then restore your usual settings.
- Try another supported browser, device or network if a school or workplace connection may be filtering content.
If one particular game is missing, it may belong to an older edition, have been available only on a particular platform, or have been replaced. A stationary map outside the Christmas Eve event window is also not necessarily a fault: live tracking is seasonal.
Is it educational, and is it suitable for children?
Some past editions included coding games, geography activities, lesson plans and material about holiday traditions. These can make the site a useful starting point for a short family or classroom activity, but they are educational entertainment rather than a formal curriculum. Google has described games and lesson plans covering introductory computer science and geography; availability can change from year to year.
The festive theme and casual activities support a family-oriented use, but that is not the same as a complete privacy or parental-control audit. Parents and teachers should preview the current edition, check its privacy notice, and pay attention before allowing a child to use sign-in, camera, microphone or location features. Do not infer from older editions that such features are or are not present in the current one. The available material also does not establish a universal account requirement or prove that every related feature is ad-free.
Google Santa Tracker or NORAD Tracks Santa?
Both are seasonal entertainment experiences, but they serve slightly different preferences. Google is a good fit for browsing a varied set of games and activities; NORAD may suit readers looking for a tracker-first tradition or a dedicated app. NORAD’s Google Play listing describes a countdown, games, stories and Christmas Eve tracking, and identifies the developer as the U.S. Department of Defense. That is NORAD’s separate program, not a Google service.

- The exact date the 2026 Google seasonal experience will launch.
- The 2026 game lineup, daily unlocks and live-tracker schedule.
- Whether past Android-only activities remain available.
- The current account, camera, microphone, location and data practices for individual features.
