The season moves Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul into the Mojave Wasteland and New Vegas, while Maximus, the Brotherhood of Steel, Vault-Tec, Robert House, Caesar’s Legion and Cooper Howard’s pre-war history take on larger roles. This is a current guide to the finished season, not an old pre-release forecast. Updated August 10, 2026.

Unlike Season 1, which arrived all at once, Fallout Season 2 was released weekly. The table below uses the U.S. release dates:

The original U.S. launch plan pointed to December 17, 2025, but Prime Video moved the premiere forward by one day. It became available at 6 p.m. Pacific / 9 p.m. Eastern on December 16. Episodes 7 and 8 were also released six hours earlier than the standard timing, making them available at the same U.S. evening time.

That is why some older pages or international listings show December 17 for the premiere and February 4 for the finale. In some territories, the U.S. release time crossed midnight and appeared on the following local calendar date. Neither date should be treated as a universal replacement for the U.S. schedule. The episode titles and dates are also listed in TV Guide’s Season 2 episode guide.
Where to watch Fallout Season 2
Season 2 streams exclusively on Prime Video, and the current official guide confirms that all eight Season 2 episodes, as well as Season 1, are available. There is no separate broadcast-TV release listed for the season.
Prime Video availability, pricing, advertising options, subtitles, dubbing and language tracks vary by country. In the United States, Amazon’s current guide lists Prime at $14.99 per month or $139 per year, but those prices should not be applied to other territories and may change. Check the local Prime Video page for the plan available in your country.
What is Season 2 about?
Spoiler-light story summary
Season 2 begins after the events of the first season, with Lucy MacLean and the Ghoul pursuing Hank MacLean across the Mojave toward New Vegas. Their partnership remains uneasy: Lucy still approaches the wasteland with a moral outlook shaped by life in a vault, while the Ghoul is a hardened and often brutal bounty hunter whose pre-war identity is Cooper Howard.

Maximus is drawn further into the Brotherhood of Steel’s hierarchy and power struggles. The season also spends more time in the pre-war timeline, expanding the stories of Cooper and Barb Howard and examining the relationship between Vault-Tec’s corporate plans and the forces that shaped the apocalypse.
Prime Video’s official synopsis describes the season as a journey through the Mojave Wasteland to New Vegas. That setting brings the television series into much closer contact with recognizable game mythology without turning the show into a direct adaptation of one particular game.
Major confirmed story elements
- Lucy and the Ghoul’s journey: Their road-trip structure continues, with each character’s values and survival methods putting pressure on the other.
- Hank’s past and whereabouts: Lucy’s pursuit of her father remains one of the season’s central narrative engines.
- New Vegas: The series presents its own live-action version of the famous city, including the Lucky 38 and Robert House.
- Robert House: The pre-war industrialist and New Vegas power broker, played by Justin Theroux, becomes substantially more important than his brief Season 1 appearance suggested.
- The Brotherhood of Steel: Maximus’s changing status makes his relationship with the Brotherhood more politically complicated.
- Caesar’s Legion: A prominent Legion storyline expands the show’s use of factions associated with Fallout: New Vegas.
- Mojave creatures: The official trailer confirmed the live-action arrival of a Deathclaw, alongside the broader wasteland dangers associated with the region.
- Pre-war history: Cooper Howard, Barb Howard and Vault-Tec receive more sustained attention in flashback material.

Being listed as returning does not mean that every performer appears in every episode or has the same amount of screen time. Some characters return through flashbacks, brief appearances or supporting storylines. The official Prime Video cast information and current episode credits should be read together.

Older pre-release reports described Culkin as a mysterious “crazy genius-type” character and left Nanjiani’s role undisclosed. Those descriptions are no longer sufficient now that the season has aired. Likewise, Aaron Paul should not be listed as a Season 2 cast member: Amazon identifies him as a Season 3 addition.
Is Season 2 an adaptation of Fallout: New Vegas?
No. Season 2 draws heavily from Fallout: New Vegas, but it is not a straight adaptation of the 2010 game.
The show uses the Mojave, New Vegas, the Lucky 38, Robert House, Caesar’s Legion, Deathclaws and other recognizable elements. However, its central television characters—Lucy, Maximus, the Ghoul and Hank—belong to the show’s original storyline. The series has its own timeline, continuity and narrative consequences rather than retelling the Courier’s journey.

The creators have described the series as an original story within the wider Fallout universe. The most accurate shorthand is therefore: Season 2 borrows heavily from the world and iconography of New Vegas while continuing an original television plot. Amazon’s explanation of the show’s relationship with the games is available in its series cast and creators feature.
Does the show make one New Vegas ending canon?
Not in a simple, officially announced way. The series takes place after the game’s events and depicts a changed New Vegas, so the television continuity necessarily tells viewers that the region’s history has progressed. That does not automatically mean the show has declared the House, New California Republic, Caesar’s Legion or independent ending to be the definitive game ending.
Before Season 2 premiered, the creators said they wanted to avoid selecting one of the player-determined endings as unambiguously canonical. Viewers can interpret details in the show as evidence for a particular outcome, but those interpretations should remain labeled as interpretations. A fan theory about the game’s ending is not the same thing as a fact established by the television series. RadioTimes’ interview coverage discusses that distinction.
What the official trailers revealed
Official teaser — August 19, 2025
The first official teaser confirmed the December 2025 launch window and emphasized the move beyond the Season 1 locations into New Vegas and the wider Mojave setting. Watch it on Prime Video’s official YouTube channel.
Official full trailer — November 13, 2025
The full trailer revealed Justin Theroux as Robert House and showed New Vegas, a Deathclaw, Caesar’s Legion imagery, Brotherhood conflict and footage of the characters played by Macaulay Culkin and Kumail Nanjiani. It established the scale and game connections of the new setting without providing a complete account of the finished plot.
As with most television trailers, individual shots were edited for promotion and did not always provide their eventual context. The trailer is reliable evidence that a character or location appears, but not necessarily evidence of how a scene unfolds or which character is speaking. Prime Video also released a New Vegas behind-the-scenes featurette and additional episode-specific material. The featurette is useful for seeing how the production approached the setting, while official clips should be preferred over fan-edited compilations when establishing plot or character facts. Spoilers: what Season 2 confirms
Warning: this section discusses identities, factions and story developments revealed by the completed season.
The most important change in Season 2 is the show’s deeper commitment to New Vegas as a political and historical setting rather than merely a destination. Robert House becomes a substantial part of the story, and the season gives the city and its surrounding factions more narrative weight. The Brotherhood and Caesar’s Legion are not just background references: both receive major attention as the characters move through the Mojave.
The season also clarifies identities that were intentionally withheld from early promotional coverage. Macaulay Culkin plays Lacerta Legate, while Kumail Nanjiani plays Paladin Xander Harkness. Michael Cristofer’s Elder Cleric Quintus is part of the Brotherhood power structure. These are completed-season facts, not speculation based on casting announcements.
Cooper Howard’s pre-war life continues to be set against the rise of Vault-Tec and the corporate ideology surrounding the apocalypse. Barb Howard’s position and the pre-war storyline receive expanded treatment, giving the Ghoul’s personal history more importance alongside Lucy’s search for Hank.
The season’s endpoint does not turn the game’s branching New Vegas conclusion into a straightforward official answer. The show presents its own post-game version of the region, leaving room for viewers to connect the evidence to different game outcomes without the series explicitly reducing that history to one universally declared ending.
Season 2 closes one stage of the journey while leaving the larger television continuity open for Season 3. Amazon has renewed the series, but it has not yet released a detailed Season 3 synopsis or date.

How Season 2 was produced
California approved the production under the working title Fallout 2+. The California Film Commission recorded 88 California filming days, 20 cast hires, 150 crew hires and 3,385 background-player days. It also listed $153.68 million in qualified expenditures and a $25 million tax-credit allocation.

The figures appear in the California Film Commission’s approved-projects document.
Why older Season 2 articles are confusing
Much of the online coverage was written in one of three different periods: when the season was announced, when only the trailers were available, or after the season had finished. Those time states should not be mixed.
- December 17, 2025: This was the original or international-calendar date seen in some reports. The U.S. premiere was moved to December 16 at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.
- February 4, 2026: This can be the local date in some territories. The U.S. finale became available on February 3.
- Unknown Culkin role: Obsolete after release. Culkin plays Lacerta Legate.
- Unknown Nanjiani role: Obsolete after release. Current credits identify Nanjiani as Paladin Xander Harkness.
- Aaron Paul speculation: Do not carry this into Season 2 coverage. He is announced for Season 3.
- Future-tense production language: Season 2 has completed production and is streaming. Articles that still say filming is underway or that the premiere is upcoming have not been fully updated.
This distinction also explains why some pre-release pages still describe the plot as unresolved or repeat early casting speculation. Current official Prime Video information and completed-season credits take priority over those older descriptions.
What comes after Season 2?
Fallout has been renewed for Season 3. Amazon’s current guide says filming began in Los Angeles in June 2026. As of August 10, 2026, there is no announced Season 3 release date.

Their characters have not been disclosed. Annabel O’Hagan and Dave Register have been promoted to series regulars for Season 3. These announcements belong to the next season and should not be confused with the Season 2 cast. Amazon’s current series guide is the reference point for the renewal, filming status and announced additions.

- April 10, 2024: Season 1 debuted globally on Prime Video.
- April 18, 2024: Amazon renewed the series for Season 2, only days after the debut. At the time, Amazon said Season 1 was already among Prime Video’s three most-watched titles.
- May 12, 2025: Amazon announced the December 2025 Season 2 window and renewed the series for Season 3.
- August 19, 2025: The official Season 2 teaser and first-look New Vegas material were released.
- August 20, 2025: Trailer coverage identified Justin Theroux as Robert House.
- November 13, 2025: The full Season 2 trailer was released.
- December 16, 2025: The U.S. Season 2 premiere became available at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.
- January 27, 2026: Episode 7 was released in the United States.
- February 3, 2026: Episode 8 and the Season 2 finale were released in the United States.
- August 10, 2026: All eight episodes remained available on Prime Video, with Season 3 filming and no announced premiere date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Fallout Season 2 based on Fallout: New Vegas?
No. Season 2 uses New Vegas, the Mojave, Robert House, Caesar’s Legion, Deathclaws and other game elements, but Lucy, Maximus, the Ghoul and Hank remain part of the show’s original television storyline. It is better described as a story inspired by and set among New Vegas material than as a direct adaptation.
Why do some listings say that Fallout Season 2 premiered on December 17, 2025?
The U.S. premiere was moved forward to December 16 at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET. Because that release time was December 17 in some international markets, and because December 17 was also the original announced date, both dates appear in older coverage.
When will Fallout Season 3 be released?
Season 3 has been renewed and began filming in Los Angeles in June 2026, but Amazon had not announced a release date as of August 10, 2026.
The Bottom Line
The answer is no longer a prediction: Fallout Season 2 is complete and streaming on Prime Video. All eight episodes are available, the U.S. run began on December 16, 2025, and the finale arrived on February 3, 2026.
