Uncoupled
Netflix canceled the comedy after one season, but that was not necessarily the end of the series everywhere: it was subsequently picked up outside Netflix. Treat this as a Netflix cancellation, not a permanent industry-wide cancellation.

Young Wallander

Rebelde

- In From the Cold: Creator Adam Glass implied the series was over; the non-return was treated as confirmed by December 2023 coverage.
- Invisible City: A principal actor’s farewell after season two led coverage to treat the Brazilian fantasy series as finished, although the evidence was not a conventional Netflix announcement.
Titles that should not be counted as 2023 cancellations
Losers
The documentary series was reportedly canceled before 2023. Its status was only acknowledged or discovered publicly during 2023, so it does not belong in a strict count of shows canceled that year.

A Time Called You, Celebrity, The Days, First Love, Glitch, Mask Girl, and The Sound of Magic were identified in coverage as effectively closed after Netflix used “miniseries” labeling. A catalog label is not the same as an explicit cancellation and should not inflate the headline total.
Why Netflix canceled so many shows in 2023
Netflix rarely publishes a title-by-title explanation. Industry coverage generally points to the relationship between viewing, completion, production cost, and the time required to deliver another season. A second or third season can also arrive after a long gap, weakening momentum. In late 2023, strike-related delays and a crowded post-strike production pipeline were cited in reporting around decisions such as Shadow and Bone. These factors explain the context without proving a single cause for every title.
What “Netflix Original” means here
Netflix branding does not always mean Netflix owns a series. Some titles were produced by outside studios and distributed or branded as Netflix Originals in particular territories. This list uses “Netflix Original or exclusive” in that practical viewer-facing sense. It excludes limited series that completed their announced story, shows canceled in another year, licensing removals, films, specials, podcasts, and programs merely awaiting renewal at the end of 2023.
