According to the arrest-affidavit account described by WSMV, police reported smelling marijuana and searching the vehicle. The report said Rucker was released at the scene after the stop while authorities sought to identify pills found during the search. A warrant was later signed after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reportedly identified the pills as psilocybin.
What was Darius Rucker arrested for?
The initial arrest coverage described three misdemeanor counts: two counts involving simple possession or casual exchange and one count alleging a violation of vehicle-registration law. Those were the charges reported at the time of the arrest, not three final convictions.

Items reported in the arrest affidavit
WSMV’s account of the affidavit said the vehicle search found:
- 14 unstamped pills, which the report said tested positive for psilocybin;
- a THC pen labeled “88.5% THC”; and
- a blunt.
The same report said Rucker told police that his girlfriend had given him the items and that he did not know what the pills were. Those details come from the affidavit and the police account as reported by WSMV; they should not be treated as independent court findings about every allegation.

What happened to the drug charges?
On September 10, 2024, WSMV reported that Rucker entered a no-contest plea to one simple-possession charge. The other simple-possession charge and the vehicle-registration charge were dismissed. A no-contest plea resolves the charge without treating it as a trial admission to every allegation; it also does not mean that all of the original charges became convictions.
Sentence
WSMV reported a sentence of 11 months and 29 days of probation. The published report also said the record would be expunged after the probation period. That was described as a future condition in the 2024 coverage, not confirmation that probation was completed or that expungement occurred.

What did Rucker’s attorneys say?
After the arrest, attorney Mark Puryear said on February 2, 2024, that “Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges,” according to WSMV.
After the September disposition, attorneys Mark Puryear and Richard Gusler thanked Judge Tom Taylor and the district attorney’s office for considering the case, and commended the Franklin Police Department and Williamson County Sheriff’s Department for what they called respectful and professional treatment. They said Rucker looked forward to completing the probationary period and putting the matter behind him. Those statements were made by his attorneys and are not findings by the court.
