Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor free rain and fireplace footage, start with Pexels, Mixkit, and Pixabay—but check the license attached to the exact clip before using it in a YouTube live loop. “Free” does not mean claim-proof, and permission to use footage does not guarantee that a repetitive loop will qualify for monetization. Save dated evidence of the license, inspect the image for third-party rights, and prepare for YouTube’s live-content checks.
Where to find free rain and fireplace footage
| Library | What its terms say | What to check before using a clip |
|---|---|---|
| Pexels | Pexels says its photos and videos may be used free for personal and commercial purposes without attribution. Its license permits editing and use on YouTube and social media. | Do not resell an unaltered file or redistribute it on stock or wallpaper platforms. Avoid implying endorsement by people or brands shown, and check for protected logos or other third-party rights. Pexels Help: license information. |
| Mixkit | Mixkit’s Free Stock Video License allows commercial and non-commercial projects, including YouTube videos. It permits downloading, modifying, distributing, public performance, and broadcast; attribution is not required, though appreciated. | Mixkit has a separate Restricted video license. Check the selected clip’s label and applicable terms; a download grants a non-exclusive license, not ownership, and an item may include components with separate rights. Mixkit licenses. |
| Pixabay | Pixabay’s FAQ describes copying, modifying, distributing, and commercial use under the Pixabay License. | Check the current item page and license, and look for trademark, publicity, or privacy rights in depicted material. Pixabay’s FAQ notes that some music can receive automated Content ID claims; that music-specific warning should not be read as evidence that every stock video will trigger a claim. Pixabay FAQ. |
A specific Pixabay result titled “Rain, Living Room, Fireplace” was listed as an MP4 at 1920×1080 and 29 FPS, published May 8, 2023, under the Pixabay Content License. Treat this as a lead, not a guarantee of current availability or terms: recheck the clip page before downloading and using it. Find it through Pixabay video search.
These are useful starting points, not a comprehensive audit of each library’s catalog. A scene that looks right in a thumbnail may have a different license, composition, resolution, or frame rate from the one you need.
Check the exact asset, not just the library name
- Open the item page. Confirm the clip’s title, creator, file type, available resolution, and the license label or terms that apply to that specific download.
- Confirm the intended use. Look for explicit permission for commercial use, editing, broadcast, and YouTube. On Mixkit, distinguish Free from Restricted; on Pixabay, read the current item terms and license information.
- Inspect the frame. Check for visible logos, recognizable people, artwork, or other protected material. A stock-footage license may not clear every third-party right in the scene.
- Save dated proof. Keep the item URL, creator and title, a copy or screenshot of the license terms, and the download record. Retain them together so you can identify the exact file if a question arises later.
- Review the clip in context. Check its loop point, crop, visual changes, and any embedded audio. A short clip repeated for hours can reveal abrupt cuts or distracting movement that is not obvious in a preview.
License terms and item availability can change. Recheck the relevant page at download time rather than relying on an old bookmark or a general claim about a site’s catalog.

What YouTube can do during a live loop
YouTube Help says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube detects a match, it may replace the stream image with a placeholder, warn you, or interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. A valid license does not necessarily prevent an interruption when the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. Archived live videos may also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.
- Keep the license evidence for the exact video and any audio used with it.
- If you have licensed material and expect it may be identified during a live broadcast, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel before going live.
- After the stream, check the archived video for a claim. A Content ID claim is not the same thing as a copyright strike; follow the notice and the rights holder’s terms rather than assuming the live broadcast settled the issue.
Permission is not the same as monetization eligibility
A license addresses whether you may use the source material; it does not promise acceptance into or continued eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. YouTube’s monetization rules apply to live streams and require original, authentic content. Its policy note dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is covered. YouTube says “video” includes live streaming, and reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. A simple rain or fireplace loop should not be assumed monetizable merely because its footage is licensed. Consider what original production or meaningful viewer value you add, and assess the channel as a whole. YouTube channel monetization policies.

Check YouTube’s live-stream prerequisites
Before setting up a live loop, YouTube’s basic streaming guidance requires a verified channel, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and an account holder who is at least 16 years old. Check YouTube Help: get started with live streaming for current requirements and setup guidance.
Troubleshoot likely problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The stream shows a placeholder, warning, or interruption. | YouTube detected third-party content, or the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. | Review YouTube’s live-stream notice, confirm the relevant license and any separate rights, and contact the rights holder about allowlisting where appropriate. |
| The archived stream receives a Content ID claim. | A match may be asserted after the live broadcast, even if no interruption occurred during the stream. | Compare the claim with your saved license record and the rights holder’s terms; use YouTube’s claim process if you have grounds to dispute it. |
| You cannot establish which license applied to the download. | The saved file is separated from its item page, or the terms were not recorded at download time. | Return to the exact item page, check the current license, and save dated evidence before using the file. If the permission remains unclear, choose another asset with terms you can verify. |
| The clip looks acceptable once but awkward in a long loop. | A visible cut, sudden motion, crop, or embedded sound may become distracting when repeated. | Preview the full loop transition and listen to the file. Edit only within the license’s permissions and check any added audio separately. |
