Tubi: a broad on-demand catalog
Tubi is a straightforward place to look when you want to choose a movie or series rather than tune in at a set time. Its official page says it has thousands of movies and TV shows, requires no subscription or credit card, and describes the service as “Always Free. 100% Legal.” Its catalog includes content from studios such as Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM. Those details do not guarantee that a particular title is available in your country or will remain in the catalog; streaming rights and selections change.
Pluto TV: live-channel surfing and on-demand viewing
Pluto TV combines scheduled live channels with on-demand movies and shows, making it the closest match here for viewers who liked browsing channels as well as picking a title. Pluto calls itself “a free, safe, and legal streaming service.” Expect ads, and check the official service for what is available in your location.
Plex: free streaming, with a separate personal-media option
Plex offers ad-supported on-demand movies and television, along with free live TV. It also lets users organize and play personal media using Plex Media Server; that library feature is distinct from the free streaming catalog. Choose Plex’s free catalog if you want hosted titles, and the server setup if you mean to play media you already own or have permission to use.

- Check access requirements. Tubi says no subscription or credit card is required. Hoopla requires a card from a participating library, and the library sets borrowing rules. Requirements for the other services can vary by device or region.
- Check country and device support before searching the catalog. Rights are territorial, and catalogs rotate. Use the service’s official website or app to confirm current access rather than trusting an old list of available films.
- Use official apps and domains. A site using the Putlocker name is not made authorized by that name, and a current Putlocker-branded domain should not be assumed legitimate. Avoid clone sites, which can expose visitors to deceptive ads, unwanted downloads or other risks.
Can you watch movies online for free without buying a device?
