A source cited by People told the outlet that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had not received an invitation to the Royal Family’s 2024 Christmas gathering at Sandringham, according to a November 29, 2024, report by The Daily Beast. The report did not cite direct confirmation from Buckingham Palace or the couple, and it says nothing about invitations for Christmas 2026.
What the report says about the 2024 invitation
The Daily Beast, in a story by William Vaillancourt published and updated November 29, 2024, attributed the claim to an unnamed source who spoke to People. It reported that Harry and Meghan had not received an invitation to that year’s Sandringham Christmas gathering. Neither outlet’s account amounts to a public confirmation by Buckingham Palace.
The claim is specific to Christmas 2024. It does not establish whether the couple were invited to any gathering in another year, including 2026.
What Sandringham means in the Royal Family’s Christmas tradition
Sandringham House, the Royal Family’s country estate in Norfolk, has been a traditional setting for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The Royal Family’s official account says the Christmas celebrations returned there in 1988 after Windsor Castle was rewired. Its account of the 2017 Christmas Day church service records Harry and Meghan’s attendance.

That documented appearance is historical context, not evidence about an invitation seven years later. The Daily Beast reported that the couple had not attended the annual gathering since 2018; that is the outlet’s account, rather than a current official attendance record.

In a February 19, 2021 statement, Buckingham Palace said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family.” The same statement described them as “much loved members of the family.” The announcement addressed their working status and family relationship, not private Christmas invitations. It therefore cannot confirm or explain the reported 2024 invitation decision.
The Palace statement is available on the Royal Family’s official website.
