It responds to that first night—not all four nights of the convention—and the show’s official description highlights Joe Biden’s appearance and Kamala Harris’s surprise appearance.

Watch the official Late Show upload, titled “DNC Night 1: Welcome To Chicago | Joe Biden Appreciation Night | Kamala’s Surprise.” The show’s description says Colbert went live from Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre after the first night of the convention. Which DNC moments does Colbert address?
Biden’s appearance
The show frames the convention evening as a tribute to President Joe Biden, whose appearance was one of its central moments. The Guardian’s contemporaneous late-night roundup also provides context on Colbert’s jokes about Biden; it is a reported summary, not a complete transcript: read the Guardian roundup.
Harris’s surprise appearance
Vice President Kamala Harris’s surprise appearance is the other moment singled out in the official episode description. Together, those two appearances anchor the clip’s connection to the convention kickoff.

The official upload and contemporary summaries establish its broad subjects, but the cited coverage is not a full transcript. For the precise wording and sequence of individual jokes, consult the video itself rather than treating a recap as a verbatim record.
