Machiavelli is widely considered as one of the most influential philosophers when it comes to politics. His grand work, “The Prince” is a 16th century political treatise. Machiavelli was an Italian diplomat and political theorist.
Many of us are familiar with his famous quote, “the end justifies the means”. We use it on a daily basis. Machiavelli’s idea is that “a good outcome excuses any wrongs committed to attain it”. For example, if a politician uses illegal funds to win the election, and he is a good candidate, the end will justify the means. Politicians nowadays have understood this quite literally.
But there is more than just that one famous quote about Machiavelli. Once you understand more about the author, you will understand where he is coming from. This documentary does a great job of explaining his life, his political views, and how his political theories influence us several centuries later.
