A scheduled stream creates an upcoming event and watch page; an encoder sends the live video feed. For a scheduled encoder stream, you still need to connect the encoder, wait for its preview in Live Control Room, and click Go live. Continuous playback, looping, and recovery after a disconnect are separate requirements.
Scheduled stream and encoder stream do different jobs
Think of a scheduled stream as the event wrapper and an encoder stream as the video feed. You can schedule an event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then use an encoder to send video to it. Neither part, by itself, establishes unattended 24/7 playback.

How to schedule and start an encoder stream
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, choose Manage, then schedule a stream. The event page can be shared and promoted, and viewers can set reminders. YouTube’s encoder guide
- Configure the encoder: Enter YouTube’s server URL and the stream key in your encoder. The key is the credential the encoder uses to send the feed, so keep it private. YouTube documents stream-key and URL settings in Manage live stream settings.
- Send the feed: Start the encoder. In Live Control Room, wait until YouTube shows the preview, then click Go live. Starting the encoder feed and starting the scheduled event are distinct steps.
- End the broadcast: End the stream in YouTube and stop sending from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume its guidance promises an archive for longer broadcasts.
What 24/7 playback requires beyond scheduling
A continuous broadcast needs a source that keeps producing video, a connection that keeps delivering it, and a plan for interruptions. YouTube’s documented controls cover scheduling, encoder connection, auto-start and auto-stop, and stream management. They do not establish that scheduling alone loops prerecorded video, restarts a dropped feed, or guarantees continuous availability. Check the continuous-use and recovery behavior of the encoder or service you choose.
YouTube’s encoder guide identifies a third-party cloud option described as supporting 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. Prepare for reliability and interruptions
- Prepare the encoder before the event and confirm that Live Control Room receives a preview.
- Test backup-encoder failover if your setup depends on uninterrupted operation.
- Check accessibility and keep local archives where you need an independent copy.
- Monitor audio and video quality rather than assuming a connected encoder means a healthy broadcast.
