Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F brings Eddie Murphy back as Axel Foley in a 2024 Netflix action-comedy. The setup reunites Axel with Beverly Hills colleagues as he returns to protect his daughter, but the available published material establishes the premise and cast—not whether the film’s jokes, action or performances land. If you want a spoiler-light guide to what the sequel offers, here are the verified details and the limits of what they can tell you.
What is Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F about?
Axel Foley is back in Beverly Hills after his daughter’s life is threatened. The Detroit detective works with her, a new partner and familiar colleagues while investigating a conspiracy. That gives the sequel a family-centered reason to bring Axel back into the setting of the earlier films, without requiring this overview to reveal plot turns. Netflix describes the film broadly as an action-comedy; that label identifies its intended mix, not how successfully the comedy and action balance on screen.

Netflix’s title page lists the film as R-rated, with a runtime of 1 hour 58 minutes. It was released on Netflix on July 3, 2024, according to Netflix Tudum; the Associated Press also included it among Netflix titles scheduled for July 3–5 in its 2024 summer movie guide.
Who returns, and who is new?
Eddie Murphy reprises Axel Foley. Taylour Paige plays Axel’s daughter, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins the story as a new partner. The official Netflix trailer identifies Judge Reinhold as Billy Rosewood and John Ashton as John Taggart, bringing two familiar colleagues back into the cast.

Those credits establish the sequel’s bridge between returning characters and a new family-and-partner dynamic. They do not, by themselves, show how much screen time each character gets or how well the performers play off one another. Netflix Tudum quotes producer Jerry Bruckheimer praising Murphy’s range: “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy –– he can do anything.” That is promotional praise from a producer, rather than an independent assessment of Murphy’s performance in this film.
Does it work as a sequel?
The premise gives returning viewers recognizable anchors—Axel, Beverly Hills and old colleagues—while adding a daughter in danger and a new partner to the case. That is enough to understand the broad setup without recapping the earlier films. Whether the story makes those relationships compelling, or relies heavily on franchise familiarity, cannot be determined from the official synopsis and cast information alone.
Rank #2
The same distinction matters for the main review questions: Murphy’s comic energy, the timing of the jokes, the effectiveness of the action and the chemistry between returning and new cast members are matters of execution. Promotional material can establish what the movie is aiming for; it cannot fairly settle whether those elements succeed. No critic consensus or audience score is established by the cited release material, so a numerical or consensus-based verdict would be misleading here.
