Live Control Room manages and previews a stream, while an encoder sends the video feed. To broadcast a playlist repeatedly, the encoder or another streaming setup must generate that repeating feed. YouTube’s cited guidance does not explicitly rule out every possible playlist feature, but it does not document a Control Room command for looping a playlist.
What Live Control Room does—and what it doesn’t document
YouTube’s encoder workflow separates sending video from managing the broadcast. You create or schedule a stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and key into an encoder, and start the encoder. Once YouTube receives the feed, you check its preview and click Go live for a scheduled stream. In this workflow, Control Room is not the source of the video or the mechanism that repeats it.
The practical chain is playlist source or encoder → YouTube ingest → Live Control Room preview and controls → viewers. If the source stops producing the feed, leaving Control Room open will not make the intended playlist continue. That is an inference from YouTube’s documented workflow, rather than a separately stated YouTube rule.
How to broadcast a playlist on repeat
Use a streaming setup that can keep sending the playlist as a continuous feed. The specific encoder is your choice; the YouTube materials cited here do not recommend a particular looping product.

- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- Create or schedule the stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and set up the broadcast. If you schedule it, use the scheduled stream’s details in your encoder.
- Configure the encoder’s source. Select a playlist or other source that the encoder can repeat, and configure it to output a continuous feed. The loop must be generated by this source or setup, not by leaving the Control Room page open.
- Connect to YouTube. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not share it or expose it in a public screenshot or recording.
- Start and preview before going live. Start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, and check that the video and audio are correct. For a scheduled stream, click Go live once the preview is ready.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check that the feed remains active and that picture and sound continue as expected. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring, including testing failover and checking local archives as appropriate to the setup.
- End the stream deliberately. YouTube’s instructions say to stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in the streaming workflow. Do not assume that a playlist stopping will produce a clean, intentional end on its own.
Auto-start, auto-stop, and reused settings are not playlist loops
YouTube stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop options. The cited settings guidance describes controls for starting or stopping streaming from the encoder; it does not describe them as controls for repeating playlist content or guaranteeing uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Reusing stream settings copies settings and a stream key, but does not create or repeat the video feed. Check the current options for the specific stream and encoder rather than assuming a setting is enabled or has a different function.
Plan for 24/7 operation and archives
Keep the source running
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the system generating and sending the feed, as well as the YouTube connection. YouTube recommends preparing encoders in advance, previewing and testing the stream, testing failover, checking local archives, and monitoring audio and video. Those tips are framed for events, but are useful reliability practices for a long-running feed too.

Understand the 12-hour archive statement
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not establish all archive behavior when a stream reaches or exceeds 12 hours, so do not treat the under-12-hour statement as a guarantee that one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive. If you need a dependable archive, plan and verify the current YouTube behavior for your stream rather than relying on an assumption about broadcasts at or beyond that threshold.

- Can it repeat the local or hosted playlist continuously?
- Does it recover or restart automatically after a connection interruption?
- Where is the stream key stored, and who can access it?
