Find the claim on the archived stream
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- In the filter bar, select Claims.
- Find the archived stream. In the Restrictions column, hover over Claims and select See details.
- On the claim details page, open Content used, then select See details.
- Read the Claimant field and the accompanying claimed-content and segment information. If several claims appear, inspect each one: different claimants can cover different segments, and claims may vary by country or region.
YouTube documents this Studio workflow for locating a claim and its claimant in its Copyright issues with live streams guidance and Content ID claims guidance. A claimant name identifies who made the claim; it does not, by itself, establish the exact source video title. Use the claimed-content and segment details to understand what YouTube matched.
Was it a live warning or a claim on the archive?
The timing changes what you should look for. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. During a broadcast, detection may produce a warning and a placeholder; if the material continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A Content ID claim on an archived live stream is a separate, post-broadcast event: YouTube says claims are made after the live stream ends if the creator chooses to archive it.
| Situation | When it happens | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Live-stream warning | While the broadcast is running | Respond to the live notice; continued detection may interrupt or terminate the stream. |
| Claim on archived stream | After the broadcast ends, if the stream is archived | Open the archive’s claim details in YouTube Studio and inspect the claimant and matched-content segments. |
| Live Content ID matching for partners | During a live stream | This is a specialized Content Manager partner feature. It can warn before interruption or termination but creates no claims. |
The partner-only live matching feature is not the ordinary archived-video claim workflow. YouTube describes live-stream warnings and interruptions in its Copyright issues with live streams help page.

What a claim does—and does not—tell you
- A claim can cover an entire video or just a segment; multiple claims may cover different segments or territories.
- A claim is not itself a copyright strike. A takedown request and strike are distinct from a Content ID claim.
- An unfamiliar claimant name alone is not evidence that a claim is invalid. Review the claimed content and segment details before deciding what to do.
- If the archive is unavailable or Studio shows no claim, YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish a way to identify a specific matching reference from OBS itself.
If you are considering disputing a claim, do so only when you have a valid basis. YouTube notes that a copyright owner may request removal if a dispute lacks one; a resulting takedown can carry different consequences from a Content ID claim.
