It is a documentary account, not a substitute for the official investigations: the U.S. Coast Guard later published its final report, and Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) issued a subsequent release highlighting wider oversight concerns.
What is the Netflix Titan documentary about?
Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster examines OceanGate’s Titan tourist submersible and the expedition during which it imploded while traveling to the Titanic wreck in 2023. Netflix Tudum’s June 11, 2025 explainer says the film traces key events and decisions before the disaster and raises questions about accountability.
The documentary discusses the carbon-fiber hull, design decisions and acoustic monitoring. Director Mark Monroe described its focus as “the decision-making that led to their deaths,” in an interview reproduced by Netflix Tudum. These are the film’s editorial themes; viewers should distinguish them from findings published later by investigators.
Tudum also reproduced a statement from lead Coast Guard investigator Captain Jason Neubauer about acoustic monitoring: “That should’ve been a warning. In the end [OceanGate] discounted the one system that was going to be vital to their operation. It is really in my mind like the smoking gun of what eventually caused this.” This is Neubauer’s comment as quoted in Tudum’s account of the documentary, not a quotation from the Coast Guard’s final report.

When did the Titan documentary come out?
Netflix released the film on June 11, 2025. Its official trailer, published May 22, 2025, introduced the film as an examination of CEO Stockton Rush’s ambition and the decisions surrounding the expedition. The trailer is a preview of the documentary’s framing, not an official investigation finding.
Where can I watch Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster?
The film is listed on Netflix. Netflix’s regional listings describe it as available to stream and download for offline viewing, but catalog access, languages and availability can vary by region and change over time. Check the title page in your local Netflix catalog for current access.

What did investigators conclude about the Titan submersible?
There are two later official sources readers should keep separate from the film’s narrative. The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation published its final report after the documentary’s release. For the investigation’s conclusions, consult the Coast Guard’s final report directly; the film and Tudum’s June 2025 explainer do not replace that primary document.
On June 17, 2026, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada published a release titled “Titan submersible operated without oversight.” It describes the Canadian cargo vessel Polar Prince towing Titan from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, to dive locations and supporting OceanGate’s operations at sea. The TSB says its investigation found a broader gap in international oversight of submersibles. Read its June 17, 2026 release for the Board’s account.

The film’s editorial account, the Coast Guard’s final report and the TSB’s later findings address different aspects of the disaster. The TSB release adds a focus on the support-vessel operation and oversight; it should not be treated as material incorporated into a Netflix film released the previous year.
