Possibly—but YouTube’s public guidance does not identify replaying the same file twice, by itself, as a separate trigger for a copyright claim. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If you archive the stream, a Content ID claim may be made after the stream ends. The documented issue is whether the stream matches protected material and what policy the rights-holder has set, not simply how many times you play the file.
What happens when YouTube detects a match?
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A live match can lead to a warning, replacement of the stream with a placeholder, or termination if the match continues. Separately, if you choose to archive the live stream, YouTube says Content ID claims are made after the stream is complete. These are distinct stages: a live scan can affect the broadcast, while an archive claim can affect the saved video. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
Does repeating a clip change the copyright outcome?
A Content ID match can be to another video or to a segment of one. A loop therefore may contain material that matches a reference, but YouTube’s published guidance does not say that repetition itself changes the likelihood of detection or creates a claim. It also provides no claim-rate estimate for repeated-file loop streams. The safest conclusion is limited: repeating a file is not described as an independent claim trigger, but repetition does not make material immune from matching.
If you made and control all the material in the file, the official guidance cited here does not identify replaying it as a copyright violation. Still, an erroneous or competing reference could produce a match, and YouTube’s documentation does not settle every edge case. For material created by someone else—such as music, footage, or artwork—confirm that your permission covers livestreaming and any archive you keep.

What a claim can do—and what it is not
A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright strike. Depending on the rights-holder’s policy, a claim may block a video, monetize it, or track its viewership; availability and outcomes can vary by territory. A strike follows a valid copyright removal request. YouTube explains the claim process and possible policies in Learn about copyright claims and distinguishes strikes in its live-stream copyright guidance.
If you have a license for third-party material
A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party material for a livestream to ask the rights-holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without allowlisting, a stream can still be interrupted. Confirm the license covers the intended use, including live broadcast and archiving, and ask the rights-holder how to have the channel allowlisted. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

Live Content ID matching is a separate feature
YouTube also documents a rights-holder feature for matching one live stream against other live streams. That feature does not create Content ID claims; it can warn streamers and replace or terminate a continuing match. This is distinct from standard Content ID matching on videos, which can result in a claim. See Use Content ID matching on live streams.
What to check if your stream is interrupted or archived video is claimed
- During a live interruption: check YouTube Studio for the warning or restriction and follow the details shown there. If the content is licensed, contact the rights-holder about allowlisting your channel.
- After an archive claim: review the claimant and matched segment in Studio, then compare the match with your rights and license terms.
- Before disputing: dispute only when you are confident you have the necessary rights or another valid basis. A claim alone is not an automatic strike; a strike follows a valid copyright removal request.
Changing a filename, rendering another copy, or adding visual changes is not a documented way to defeat Content ID. YouTube’s cited guidance does not support those tactics.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the reason you are looping a file is to keep a YouTube channel live, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection left on; it plays the uploaded video rather than broadcasting a camera. It does not change copyright obligations or guarantee that a match will not occur.
