Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Short answer: YouTube Live is the platform that hosts your broadcast; OBS Studio is software that produces and encodes it. They are not substitutes—you can use OBS to send a continuous stream to YouTube. For a 24/7 broadcast, the key choice is whether to keep your own computer and internet connection running or use a cloud service such as StreamNeo to loop uploaded videos on YouTube. OBS suits creators who need hands-on production control; a cloud service suits those who want an uploaded video or playlist to keep playing without a home computer running.
What “YouTube Live vs OBS” actually means
YouTube Live provides the broadcast destination and audience experience. OBS Studio is an encoder and production tool: it can combine sources such as gameplay, screen sharing, camera or audio hardware, and overlays, then send the result to YouTube. You can use YouTube Live without OBS, and you can use OBS to produce a YouTube Live stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes encoder use for more advanced productions; OBS provides its own official help portal.
| Question | YouTube Live with OBS | StreamNeo |
|---|---|---|
| What does it do? | YouTube hosts the stream; OBS produces and encodes it on your computer. | Loops uploaded videos or a playlist from the cloud to YouTube. |
| What must stay running? | Your computer, OBS, power, and a stable outbound connection. | No home computer or connection needs to stay on. |
| Best fit | Scenes, overlays, live commentary, gameplay, screen sharing, or external production gear. | A continuous stream of uploaded video when you want cloud operation rather than a local encoder. |
Which approach should an Indian creator choose?
Choose OBS when you need a live-produced show
OBS is a good fit when the broadcast changes in real time: for example, you are presenting, switching scenes, sharing a screen, adding overlays, or using external audio/video equipment. It gives you production control, but your own computer and connection are responsible for keeping the encoder online.
Choose a cloud loop when the content is prerecorded
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings or a playlist around the clock, a cloud service can remove the need to leave a home PC running. StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider here: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploads as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

Check YouTube eligibility before scheduling a 24/7 stream
YouTube requires a channel to be verified and to have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and check the feature before announcing a launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guidance.

For Indian creators, YouTube’s India-localized monetization guidance notes that features have separate eligibility conditions, which can depend on factors including age, region, contract, and policy status. Check your own channel in YouTube Studio under Earn; being in India or starting a live stream does not by itself establish that a particular monetization feature is available. See YouTube’s monetization guidance for India.

- Prepare the channel. Verify the YouTube channel, confirm that it has no live-stream restriction in the last 90 days, and activate live streaming in advance. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Plan the broadcast content. Decide which scenes and media will run continuously, how transitions or interruptions will be handled, and whether you need a person present to speak or monitor the stream. For a documentary channel, check that every film, excerpt, soundtrack, photograph, and other visual is cleared for continuous live use.
- Set up OBS and the encoder connection. Add the required sources and arrange scenes in OBS. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use its encoder connection details to connect OBS. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover its connection workflow.
- Choose output settings for your actual content and connection. Set resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval in OBS to values supported by YouTube’s current recommendations and your upload connection. The reviewed official guidance does not establish one universal bitrate, broadband speed, PC specification, or output preset for every Indian creator; requirements depend on the chosen output. Avoid treating a setting suitable for one setup as a general minimum.
- Test before the public start. Run a private or unlisted test if appropriate, check YouTube’s stream health, watch for dropped frames or audio problems, and verify the result on another device. Test the specific computer, power arrangement, cooling, and connection you intend to use; do not assume that a short test proves 24/7 reliability.
- Plan for recovery and archiving. Decide who can restart OBS or reconnect the encoder if the computer, power, internet, or stream fails. If the full replay matters, arrange a local recording backup and avoid relying on one broadcast that runs beyond YouTube’s archive limit.
Continuous operation: local responsibilities and archive limits
With OBS, the whole chain must keep working: the computer must remain powered and responsive, OBS must continue encoding, and the outbound connection must stay usable. YouTube’s encoder materials do not prescribe a universal Indian broadband speed or PC specification, so test the precise configuration you plan to run. Account for power interruptions, overheating, operating-system restarts, encoder crashes, connection drops, and who will notice and respond.
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete replay of a single day-long broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends a local archive backup. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance. If the replay is important, schedule shorter broadcasts or record a separate local copy rather than treating a 24-hour stream as a guaranteed archive.

Watch hours, monetization, and documentary content
A 24/7 schedule does not automatically qualify a channel for monetization or guarantee earnings. YouTube’s standard ad-revenue eligibility routes include 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months, or 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the previous 90 days. These are eligibility thresholds, not an approval or earnings promise; YouTube reviews channels against additional requirements and policies. See YouTube Partner Program overview.
Watch-time contribution and YPP acceptance are separate questions. Check YouTube’s current rules for which views and watch hours qualify, then check your channel’s Earn status. YouTube’s monetization policies can exclude reused content that lacks meaningful original commentary, substantive changes, or educational or entertainment value. Its July 15, 2025 policy note clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered by its inauthentic-content policy. A continuous loop is not a monetization shortcut; review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before planning a format built on repeated material.

You remain responsible for having the necessary rights for live and archived content, including music licensing rights, and for compliance with applicable laws and YouTube’s Community Guidelines. This matters especially for documentaries that include licensed footage, ambient music, or third-party imagery. See YouTube’s terms and verify rights for every element before sending it out continuously.
Practical checks before going live
- Content rights: Confirm that you have rights for the film, excerpts, music, still images, and other material in the stream and any replay.
- Editorial value: If monetization matters, make the channel’s original contribution clear; repeated footage or minimally changed third-party material can create policy problems.
- Replay plan: Decide whether you need a local recording or shorter scheduled broadcasts to preserve an archive.
- Operational plan: For a local OBS stream, test power, computer, connection, and recovery procedures using the actual setup.
- Optional audio gear: A USB microphone may help when a host is providing live commentary. It is not required for OBS or for a silent stream.
