The line “You got the touch. You got the power.” comes from the chorus of “The Touch,” performed by Stan Bush. The song is most closely tied to The Transformers: The Movie (1986), and it has been reused in video games and a later Transformers film project. The sections below cover who wrote it, how it reached the 1986 film, and what is and is not established about its later uses.
Identifying the song and the artist
The phrase is the hook of “The Touch,” and Stan Bush is the original artist. Bush’s official biography lists the song among the works made famous by The Transformers: The Movie. If you are searching for the source of the line, the song title and artist are the two details to confirm on a streaming service or a physical release.
Where the title came from
In a 2017 interview, Bush described writing “The Touch” with his writing partner, Lenny Macaluso. According to Bush, the song came together quickly, and the title idea came from Macaluso, who took it from a line in the 1986 film Iron Eagle: “Kid, you’ve got the touch.” The lyric’s “touch” and “power” wording therefore has a film-dialogue origin that predates the song.
How the song ended up in Transformers
The song was not written for the Transformers film. Bush said in the same 2017 interview: “We wrote the song with the Stallone movie, Cobra, in mind.” He added that the record label then arranged for the song to be used in The Transformers: The Movie instead. This is the artist’s own account, so it is the most direct evidence for the song’s placement, though it does not document the label’s internal reasoning.

Other places the song appears
Several uses are documented, each from a different kind of source:
- The Transformers: The Movie (1986): the original film placement, per Bush’s account and the film’s association with the song.
- “The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2”: a Transformers reference page reports the song’s use in this third-season finale of the animated series.
- Guitar Hero: listed in Bush’s official biography.
- Bumblebee: listed in Bush’s official biography.
- Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (2013 game): Bush’s biography says the song was remixed for this game.
Original recording versus the later rerecording
A reader comparing versions should separate the original 1986 song from a later rerecording. A Transformers reference page reports that Bush rerecorded the song for possible inclusion in the 2007 Transformers live-action film. According to that same page, the rerecording was not included in the film or its final soundtrack. This is secondary reporting rather than a statement from Bush or the studio, so treat it as the best available account rather than a confirmed studio record.

Finding the song on a soundtrack or album
A reader looking for the song in physical form should first confirm which release contains it. A film soundtrack appearance and a separately released album edition of the song are not the same product. The sources reviewed for this article do not verify which physical editions are currently in print, their track listings, or retailer stock. Check the product listing and track listing before purchasing, and confirm that it is the version you want.

The sources establish where the song came from and where it has been used. They do not offer an authoritative reading of what every lyric means. The most reliable statement about the line is its origin: a chorus hook that Bush and Macaluso developed, with its title phrasing traced to Iron Eagle.
