Sheryl Crow said she sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR, describing the decision as a question of whom she was willing to align with. Reports published February 15, 2025 connected the gesture to Tesla owner Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
What Sheryl Crow announced
Crow shared a video showing her Tesla being taken away. TheWrap reported that the video appeared on Friday, February 14, 2025, and quoted her Instagram post: “My parents always said … you are who you hang out with. There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”
She said the money from the sale was donated to NPR, writing that the broadcaster was “under threat by President Musk” and expressing hope that “the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.”
Why the story was tied to Musk and DOGE
Crow’s quoted statement does not use the phrase “DOGE actions.” That wording describes the political context reported by news outlets: Musk was serving a prominent role in President Donald Trump’s administration through DOGE. Crow framed her own decision more broadly as a refusal to remain aligned with Musk and as support for NPR.

Crow said that she did. TheWrap and Vanity Fair both reported her announcement, but those reports do not independently document the transaction, identify the sale price, or state how much NPR received. The available accounts therefore establish the claim as Crow’s announcement rather than a verified dollar figure.
