Little Nightmares III is not included in the Xbox Game Pass catalog as of August 8, 2026. You must purchase the game to play the full version, although Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate can stream that purchased copy through cloud gaming. A free trial and Friend’s Pass lets another player join the complete campaign online without buying a second copy.
Is Little Nightmares III included with Game Pass?
No. The Xbox Store states: “Cloud playable with Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate. Game purchase required.” In other words, a qualifying subscription supplies cloud-streaming access to a copy you already own; it does not unlock the game from the Game Pass catalog. The Xbox listing also supports PC, but its purchase-required notice is not evidence that the title is included with PC Game Pass.

Release date and Xbox platforms
The Xbox release date was October 10, 2025. The game is listed for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming, with Smart Delivery and Xbox Play Anywhere. Those ownership and delivery features do not add the game to Game Pass and do not guarantee cross-platform or cross-generation multiplayer.

How co-op works
Little Nightmares III supports single-player and two-player online co-op. It has no advertised local, split-screen or couch co-op mode. In solo play, an AI companion controls the second character.

The two characters
- Low: uses a bow.
- Alone: uses a wrench.
The full campaign can be played online by two people. Co-op is limited to two players, and both players must use the same platform ecosystem: Xbox with Xbox, PlayStation with PlayStation, or PC with PC. Cross-platform play is not supported, according to the developer’s game-specific FAQ: Bandai Namco FAQ.
Xbox One and Xbox Series compatibility
Do not assume Xbox One and Xbox Series players can co-op together. The developer said cross-generation play was unavailable at launch and was under consideration. A January 28, 2026 multiplayer update announced cross-generation support for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, but did not announce equivalent Xbox One/Xbox Series support.

Friend’s Pass: what each player needs
- Both players install Little Nightmares III – Free Trial & Friend’s Pass.
- They can play the opening section together online, or either player can try it solo.
- For the entire campaign, one player must own the full game.
- The other player joins through the free Friend’s Pass installation and does not need to purchase the game.
- Both players must be on the same platform ecosystem.
Trial progress carries over if the trial user later buys the full game. One purchased copy is therefore enough for a complete online co-op campaign on the same platform.

A co-op save cannot be converted into a solo save, and a solo save cannot be converted into a co-op save. A co-op run must continue with the same two players. You can create a separate save for another friend or for solo play; the developer FAQ says the game supports up to eight saves.

Post-launch co-op fixes
Several updates addressed multiplayer problems reported after release:
- October 23, 2025 (Xbox): improved host/client synchronization.
- November 19, 2025: fixed co-op progression problems and desynchronization in puzzles and chase sequences.
- January 28, 2026 (Xbox): further improved host/client synchronization and resolved co-op progression issues.
Launch-era reports of desyncs or progression blockers may refer to issues targeted by these patches, but the official notes do not promise that every possible multiplayer problem has been eliminated. Patch information is published by Bandai Namco at the official patch-notes page.
