Jared Padalecki plays Mister Marathon in season 5 of The Boys, the series’ fifth and final season. Padalecki confirmed the role publicly at the FACTS Convention in Belgium in April 2026, ending the uncertainty left by Prime Video’s original casting announcement, which identified him only as a guest actor. In current reporting, Mister Marathon is a speedster and a former member of the Seven. The television version is active when Padalecki appears, although the character’s comic-book counterpart reportedly died before the main events of the comics.
Who does Jared Padalecki play in The Boys season 5?
He plays Mister Marathon. The name was confirmed by Padalecki himself at a FACTS Convention appearance in Belgium in April 2026. ComicBook.com and Popverse both reported the confirmation, with Popverse quoting Padalecki’s brief statement: “Okay. Yeah. I’m Mister Marathon.”

That confirmation answers the question directly, but it also explains why older stories may appear to give no character name. When Prime Video announced Padalecki’s involvement in February 2025, it described him as a guest star for the fifth and final season and did not reveal the role. The name was therefore not part of the original official announcement; it became public later through Padalecki’s convention appearance.

The available information establishes the character’s name, broad identity and place in the season, but not a detailed biography or storyline. These are the confirmed points:
Popular on Amazon
- Character: Mister Marathon.
- Series: The Boys.
- Season: season 5, announced as the show’s fifth and final season.
- Type of character: a speedster, according to current coverage.
- Team history: a former member of the Seven.
- Announcement history: Prime Video disclosed the guest appearance in February 2025 without naming the character; Padalecki supplied the name in April 2026.
Reports also say Mister Marathon had been referenced in earlier seasons. That means the name is not entirely new to the show’s fictional world, even though Padalecki’s casting was initially presented without a character identity.
When was Jared Padalecki’s character revealed?
The reveal happened in two stages, which is why dates matter when evaluating articles about the casting.
| Date | What was reported | What it established |
|---|---|---|
| February 2025 | Prime Video announced Padalecki and Misha Collins as guest actors for season 5, noting that both would share scenes with Jensen Ackles. | The casting and the season were confirmed, but neither actor’s character was named. |
| April 2026 | Padalecki spoke at the FACTS Convention in Belgium and confirmed, “Okay. Yeah. I’m Mister Marathon.” | Padalecki’s character name was identified as Mister Marathon. |
Consequently, a February 2025 article saying Padalecki’s role was unknown was accurate at the time. It should not be read as evidence against the later confirmation. Conversely, a current article can give the definitive answer because the character was named publicly in April 2026.
What kind of character is Mister Marathon?
Current reporting describes Mister Marathon as a speedster. In the context of The Boys, that places him among the super-powered figures whose abilities are tied to extraordinary speed. The reports do not provide a more specific power specification, such as a stated top speed, a particular limitation or a detailed explanation of how his abilities work, so those details should not be treated as established facts.
What does “former member of the Seven” mean?
Mister Marathon is also described as a former member of the Seven, the prominent superhero group within the series. “Former” indicates a past association rather than current membership at the point described by the reporting. It does not, by itself, explain why he left, whether he was expelled, whether the group changed, or what his relationship with its current members will be in season 5.

The combination of speedster status and Seven history gives the character a recognizable place in the show’s mythology without revealing the season’s plot. It identifies the role’s broad category and institutional background while leaving his motives, loyalties and amount of screen time undisclosed.
Had the show mentioned Mister Marathon before season 5?
ComicBook.com’s account says the character had been referenced in earlier seasons. A reference is not the same as a fully developed on-screen role: the reports do not establish that Mister Marathon previously appeared as a visible, speaking character or that the earlier mention explained his full history. The safe conclusion is that the name existed in the television continuity before Padalecki’s casting was identified.

Is the television version the same as the comic-book Mister Marathon?
Not necessarily. Popverse reports a significant difference between the comic and television versions. In the comics, Mister Marathon is said to have been killed before the main comic events. In the television adaptation, the character is presented as active when Padalecki appears.
That difference is important because a character’s fate in the source material does not automatically determine the television version’s status. The adaptation can use the same name and broad concept while changing chronology, survival, relationships or narrative function. The reported television appearance therefore should be understood on its own terms rather than as a direct replay of the comic character’s timeline.
The available reports do not establish whether the television series will explain the comic character’s death, reinterpret it, or ignore it. They also do not say whether Padalecki’s Mister Marathon follows the comics in personality, costume, affiliations or powers beyond the reported speedster description.

Why did the original casting announcement leave fans guessing?
Prime Video’s February 2025 announcement was deliberately limited in the information it released. It confirmed Padalecki and Collins as guest actors, identified season 5 as the final season, and noted that both would share scenes with Jensen Ackles. It did not attach character names to either actor.

That created a period in which speculation could circulate without a confirmed answer. Fan theories and early reports should be dated to that period rather than presented as settled casting information. The later FACTS Convention statement changed the status of Padalecki’s role from speculation to a public confirmation by the actor.
The announcement’s reference to shared scenes with Ackles is a confirmed production detail, but it does not reveal how Mister Marathon relates to Ackles’s character, Soldier Boy, or what those scenes involve. No plot explanation, episode placement or character arc was included in the reports that established Padalecki’s role.
What does Padalecki’s appearance mean for season 5?
It confirms that Mister Marathon is part of the cast of the show’s concluding season. Because season 5 is described as the fifth and final season, the appearance takes place within the series’ planned end point rather than an announced continuation.
That does not establish the character’s importance to the finale. A guest role can range from a brief appearance to a recurring presence, and the available announcements do not state how many episodes Padalecki appears in, how long he is on screen or whether Mister Marathon survives the season. Those questions remain separate from the confirmed identity of the role.

The casting does establish an unusual connection among three performers associated with Supernatural: Padalecki, Collins and Ackles. The Prime Video announcement specifically said Padalecki and Collins would share scenes with Ackles, but it did not describe the scenes as a reunion, parody or crossover. Any interpretation beyond that production fact remains unconfirmed.
How should older articles about Padalecki’s role be read?
Use the publication date and distinguish between announcement and confirmation.
- Articles from before February 2025: they could not rely on Prime Video’s later casting announcement.
- Articles from February 2025 through early April 2026: they could accurately describe Padalecki as an unnamed guest actor, because the character identity had not been disclosed in the announcement.
- Articles after the April 2026 convention appearance: they can identify the role as Mister Marathon, provided they accurately attribute the confirmation.
This timeline prevents a common mistake: treating the absence of a character name in the first announcement as if the role were still unknown after Padalecki confirmed it. It also avoids presenting earlier guesses as though they were official casting information.

Is Jared Padalecki Mister Marathon?
Yes. Padalecki publicly confirmed that he is playing Mister Marathon. The character is a speedster and former Seven member in the television version, and the role belongs to season 5 of The Boys, which has been announced as the final season.
The clearest way to reconcile the reporting is to separate the two dates: Prime Video announced an unnamed guest role in February 2025, while Padalecki named Mister Marathon at the FACTS Convention in April 2026. The later confirmation is the answer to the current casting question.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has Jared Padalecki said what Mister Marathon’s powers are beyond being a speedster?
No additional power details are established in the reports that confirmed the casting. There is no published figure for his speed, no stated weakness and no confirmed explanation of how the television series will portray his abilities.
Will Mister Marathon be a hero or a villain in season 5?
The available casting reports do not assign him a simple hero or villain label. His former Seven membership identifies his background, but his current allegiance and motives have not been disclosed.
Does Mister Marathon die in The Boys season 5 because the comic character died?
That cannot be concluded from the comic storyline. The television version is active when Padalecki appears, and no report confirming his season 5 fate has been published in the available material.
How many episodes will Jared Padalecki appear in?
The announcement confirms a guest appearance but does not state an episode count. Screen time, episode titles and the size of Mister Marathon’s story remain unannounced.
