According to HBO’s season synopsis, Danvers and Navarro agree to work together after each discovers a connection between Annie and one of the Tsalal researchers.
Annie’s phone and the ice-cave clue
The detectives examine video recovered from Annie’s phone. In the disturbing recording, Annie says she has found something before the footage becomes chaotic and ends with her screams. The video appears to show an ice-cave system, giving the investigators a possible location for the crime.

Episode 4 follows Danvers and Navarro as they try to determine where Annie was actually killed. The apparent caves are not where they initially expect them to be, raising the possibility that Annie was murdered elsewhere and that her body was moved. Her secret relationship with Tsalal researcher Raymond Clark makes the phone evidence especially important.
The official preview does not establish who killed Annie, nor does it prove that Clark is responsible. Clark remains a major suspect because of his relationship with Annie and his disappearance, but the detectives are still searching for him.

Navarro’s sister Julia
The episode’s personal storyline focuses on Julia, Navarro’s sister, whose mental health is again deteriorating. Navarro takes Julia to a local facility and promises that things will turn out differently this time. The storyline adds emotional pressure to Navarro’s investigation while continuing the season’s interest in trauma, memory and perception.

Part 4 introduces Otis Heiss, a German national hospitalized in 1998 with injuries resembling those suffered by the Tsalal scientists. Danvers eventually questions him about Clark’s whereabouts, creating another potential link between the station’s mystery and events that happened decades earlier.

Danvers, Leah and the protest
Danvers also deals with a family and political conflict involving her stepdaughter, Leah. After Leah participates in a protest, Danvers imposes a severe punishment. This storyline is separate from the Tsalal investigation, but it deepens the personal and institutional pressure surrounding the case.
Does the trailer confirm a supernatural explanation?
No. The preview intensifies Night Country’s supernatural ambiguity through visions, strange imagery and unexplained events, but it does not confirm that the scientists’ deaths have a supernatural cause. The series continues to place possible hallucinations and uncanny phenomena alongside conventional clues and police work. The nature of those events remains unresolved at this point in the story. TIME’s explanation of the season’s premise likewise treats the supernatural question as deliberately open.
