Yes. TikTok is available to download through the U.S. Apple App Store, and TikTok announced its return to both the App Store and Google Play on February 13, 2025. Its return does not mean the federal law at the center of the dispute was repealed or that the app is permitted on every work or government device. A U.S. operating structure and subsequent enforcement decisions have changed the situation, but legal and policy conditions can still shift.
How to download TikTok in the U.S.
Use an official app store rather than a third-party download site. TikTok’s U.S. App Store listing is live and identifies the app as free with in-app purchases, rated 13+. It showed version 46.3.0 in its recent version history when checked in August 2026. Store listings and versions can change.
iPhone or iPad
- Open the Apple App Store.
- Search for TikTok – Videos, Shop & LIVE, or open TikTok’s U.S. App Store listing.
- Confirm you have selected the official TikTok app, then tap Get or the cloud-download icon.
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password, then open the app and sign in or create an account.
Android
- Open Google Play and search for TikTok.
- Select the official TikTok listing and check its developer information before installing.
- Tap Install, then open the app and sign in or create an account.
TikTok announced that it was again available through Google Play as well as Apple’s App Store on February 13, 2025. TikTok’s announcement confirms that return; if you cannot find the listing, try the troubleshooting steps below rather than installing an unofficial package.
Why TikTok disappeared from U.S. stores
The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act restricted distribution, maintenance, and updating of covered applications unless the required divestiture conditions were met. The law put app stores and hosting providers in the enforcement picture; it did not simply instruct individual users to delete TikTok. The national-security concerns involved potential access to U.S. user data and influence over recommendation systems. The White House described the law and later policy framework in its September 25, 2025 executive order.

Separately, federal law and government policies have addressed TikTok on government devices. That is not the same question as whether an ordinary consumer can install the app on a personal phone.
What changed from 2025 to 2026
The 2025 shutdown and return
U.S. users lost access around the evening of January 18, 2025, as the law took effect. On January 20, President Donald Trump issued an executive order directing a delay in enforcement. TikTok returned to the U.S. Apple App Store and Google Play on February 13–14, 2025, after app-store and hosting providers received assurances they would not be penalized during the enforcement delay. The Congressional Research Service’s TikTok FAQ records the interruption and return; TikTok announced the store availability itself on February 13.

The U.S. operating structure and federal-device opinion
TikTok’s U.S. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, both updated July 15, 2026, identify TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC as the operator of the U.S. services. That is a change in the U.S. operating arrangement, not proof that ByteDance has no connection to TikTok.
On July 16, 2026, the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel said the version operated by the joint venture falls outside the No TikTok on Government Devices Act. Its opinion described the venture as independently functioning and majority-owned by American investors, with a revised recommendation algorithm and cybersecurity program. This is an executive-branch legal opinion about the federal-device prohibition, not a blanket guarantee about consumer app-store availability or a final judicial resolution of every issue. If TikTok does not appear or will not install
A missing result on one device does not establish that TikTok has been removed nationwide. Store availability can depend on account region, device, operating-system version, age settings, and management policies. Try these checks in order:
- Confirm the Apple Account or Google Play account is set to the United States. A store account registered in another country may show a different catalog.
- Search the exact name in the store instead of relying on an old home-screen icon or saved download link.
- Check Screen Time, Family Sharing, Google Family Link, or other parental controls. The U.S. iOS listing is rated 13+, and family settings can restrict apps.
- If the phone belongs to an employer, school, government agency, or other organization, check its device-management profile or ask its administrator. The organization may block installation even while the consumer listing is available.
- Update iOS, iPadOS, or Android if an app-store compatibility message indicates the device is not supported. Check storage space as well.
- Restart the device. If other app downloads are failing too, check the store account and sign-in status; on Apple devices, also check account payment settings.
- Try TikTok’s official website in a browser to distinguish an app-store problem from a broader service issue.
Do not delete a working installation because of an unverified rumor. Avoid random APK sites, modified apps, “unlocked” downloads, and social-media download links: unofficial packages can create malware, account-theft, privacy, and update risks. A VPN is not an official substitute for store availability or device-policy permission.

Can existing users still use their accounts?
Existing U.S. users generally continue using the same app and accounts; Associated Press coverage of the new U.S. entity reported that users could continue using the app. Some users may need to update the app or accept revised terms. The U.S. operator and privacy terms have changed, and no single statement about account continuity proves that every user’s feed, data handling, settings, or available features are unchanged. What availability means for privacy and device rules
Personal devices
For ordinary U.S. consumers, the official-store availability answers whether the app can currently be downloaded; it does not establish that every concern about the law or TikTok’s data practices has disappeared. TikTok’s current U.S. Privacy Policy explains how the company says it handles information. Review it before deciding what data and permissions you are comfortable sharing.

Government, school, and work devices
The July 2026 Justice Department opinion addresses the federal-device statute and the joint-venture-operated version. It does not automatically override a state agency’s, school’s, employer’s, military unit’s, contractor’s, or private company’s rules. A personal phone and a managed device can therefore have different answers even when both use the same app store.
Security claims
TikTok says its U.S. data-security arrangements place USDS control over access to protected U.S. user data, recommendation, and moderation systems in Oracle Cloud. That is TikTok’s description of its safeguards, not an independent finding that the service is risk-free or that U.S. data never leaves the country.
