Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Damon Wayans Jr. reunited for a PEOPLE photo shoot and interview in Los Angeles in October 2024. PEOPLE called it their first on-camera gathering together since the sitcom ended. The get-together was not an announcement of a reunion episode or revival.
What brought the four actors together?
The actors gathered for PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive issue, where they reflected on making New Girl and the comic rhythm they developed while working together. The series aired on Fox from 2011 to 2018 and followed singles sharing a Los Angeles loft; Zooey Deschanel and Hannah Simone also starred. PEOPLE’s interview, published November 12, 2024, described the photo shoot and conversation as the four men’s first on-camera gathering since the finale.
Why did their comic chemistry return so quickly?
The actors said long shooting days gave them reason to amuse one another, and that some of their bits made it into the show. Wayans recalled, “Well, it’s because we had to do so many hours of shooting. We had to find a way to stay entertained and so we just kind of would just do bits with each other the whole time.” Morris summed up the familiar dynamic: “So when you get around each other, you instantly get back into silliness.”
Did they announce a New Girl reunion?
No. The interview reported no greenlight, production plan, date or commitment to make a reunion episode or revive the series. The actors expressed openness to the idea, but made clear it was not theirs to approve.

The cast cannot make the decision alone
Johnson said, “None of us have any power about a reunion. But I think we all would if the right thing came, it’s really fun to be together.” Greenfield pointed to creator Liz Meriwether’s role, saying, “It’s so much about Liz Meriwether who created the show and what she would do differently and how she would direct the show and if she would want to do a reunion.” Morris joked about compensation and said he had advocated for a reunion, but that is not confirmation that one is in development.
Why are new viewers still discovering the sitcom?
Greenfield credited the show’s accessibility on streaming services with helping new viewers find it. That is his explanation in the PEOPLE interview, not independently measured audience data or confirmation of where the series is currently available. He also recalled fans telling him, “I watched all 130 episodes, and now my life has changed.” That is Greenfield’s anecdote, not an independent episode-count claim.
