The story began with an unnamed “well-known actor” discussed on the December 16, 2025 episode of I Need You Guys. After the claim spread online, fans speculated about Zach Braff, who denied that he was dating an AI chatbot. No public evidence establishes Braff—or any other actor—as the person described.
What was actually said on the podcast?
The rumor traces to the episode “A Necklace That’s A Wife” of I Need You Guys, hosted by Jenny Slate, Max Silvestri and Gabe Liedman, with Kumail Nanjiani as guest. The official episode listing describes a discussion about guessing a “not-quite-A-List actor” who was supposedly dating an AI chatbot: Apple Podcasts episode listing.
According to reports about the conversation, Silvestri said he had heard that a recognizable television actor, also appearing in films, was romantically involved with a chatbot. The description included the actor taking the chatbot with him and interacting through a phone or computer. A name was reportedly sent privately to the other participants rather than announced publicly.
That account remains hearsay. The episode listing does not identify the actor, establish that Silvestri had firsthand knowledge, or prove that the relationship existed.

How did Zach Braff become attached to the story?
Months after the episode, a clip or excerpt circulated more widely on social media and in celebrity-gossip discussion. Online commenters began proposing names. Zach Braff became the most prominent suggestion, partly because of his association with Scrubs, according to Futurism’s chronology.
The sequence matters: the podcast discussed an unnamed actor; internet users supplied Braff’s name; Braff then responded. The hosts did not publicly identify Braff in the available episode description or mainstream coverage.

What did Braff deny?
In Instagram Stories reported on March 12, 2026, Braff said he was not dating a chatbot and expressed disbelief that he had to address the claim publicly. He also suggested that the rumor might have been confused with an upcoming Scrubs storyline and asked gossip outlets to update their coverage. Later reports said he had not known the podcast was the source because he was not on TikTok. Just Jared’s report reproduces the substance of his response.
Braff’s statement is the clearest direct comment from a person publicly connected to the rumor. It establishes his denial, not the identity of the unnamed actor and not the truth or falsity of Silvestri’s original account.

Could a Scrubs plot have caused confusion?
That is one possible explanation, not a confirmed origin. Braff suggested that a forthcoming Scrubs storyline may have been mistaken for, or blended with, the podcast discussion. Reports do not establish that the show’s plot generated the rumor, nor that publicity for the series was involved. ComingSoon’s account presents the connection as Braff’s suggestion.
At least three interpretations remain possible:
- Silvestri was repeating genuine but unverified entertainment-industry gossip.
- The exchange was exaggerated, playful or comedic podcast banter.
- The online rumor became conflated with a fictional Scrubs plot or related promotion.
Available evidence does not distinguish among them.

What other names appeared online?
Futurism reported that commenters also floated Jason Segel and David Harbour. Neither was identified by the podcast, and neither was reported in that coverage as confirming or addressing the allegation. Their names are examples of how an anonymous claim can acquire multiple supposed identities—not evidence that either actor was involved.
What is verified, and what is not?
| Point | What the public record supports |
|---|---|
| Podcast and episode | I Need You Guys discussed an unnamed actor on an episode dated December 16, 2025. The official listing names the hosts and Kumail Nanjiani: Apple Podcasts. |
| Actor’s identity | Not publicly established. |
| Alleged AI relationship | No reliable public confirmation. |
| Zach Braff | He denied dating an AI chatbot; reports link his response to March 12, 2026: Just Jared. |
| Other names | Jason Segel and David Harbour were mentioned by online commenters, according to Futurism; this is unsupported speculation. |
Why repetition does not make the claim stronger
The evidence chain never moves beyond an anonymous, secondhand podcast account followed by social-media speculation. Reposts can make a blind item look like a reported identification, while comments and headlines may omit the fact that the original actor was unnamed. Virality is distribution, not corroboration.

The phrase “dating an AI chatbot” also compresses several different ideas—emotional attachment, role-play, companionship or a fictional storyline—into one sensational label. None of those possibilities verifies this particular allegation.
What remains unknown?
- Who, if anyone, was the actor Silvestri heard about?
- Was Silvestri’s information firsthand, or did it come through another person?
- Was the conversation intended as serious gossip, exaggeration or a joke?
- Was any specific AI product involved?
- Did a scripted television plot contribute to the confusion?
Those questions cannot be answered by identifying people through fan theories. Naming a private person or repeating an unsupported celebrity accusation would turn uncertainty into a false assertion.
The bottom line
A December 2025 podcast sparked an anonymous rumor about a television actor and an AI chatbot. Zach Braff later denied that he was the subject and suggested a possible Scrubs connection, but no evidence proves that explanation either. Until a participant provides verifiable, firsthand information, the responsible conclusion is that the actor remains unidentified and the alleged relationship remains unsubstantiated.
