The 10 Greatest Alan Ritchson Movies and Shows, Ranked

Alan Ritchson’s strongest screen role is Jack Reacher, but his career stretches from college comedy and superhero television to major action films. This ranking weighs his performance and role size alongside each title’s visibility and staying power; it is an editorial selection, not a definitive consensus list. A familiar blockbuster can rank below a smaller project when Ritchson has less room to make an impression.

What are Alan Ritchson’s best movies and TV shows?

The list moves from the role that best showcases Ritchson as a lead to projects that reveal other sides of his work. The order is not a rating leaderboard: ratings change over time and cannot capture how central he is to a title or what a performance contributes.

  1. Reacher — the defining lead role

Ritchson plays Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series based on Lee Child’s novels. Season one draws on Killing Floor, though the series is an adaptation rather than a scene-by-scene rendering of the book. As the lead, Ritchson gets sustained space to shape the character across an action story, making this the clearest showcase of his screen presence.

At the September 28, 2026 renewal announcement, Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios said season four had reached 66 million global viewers in its first 28 days on Prime Video, and that the series had exceeded 200 million viewers worldwide since its 2022 debut. Those are company-reported figures, not independently audited counts. The same announcement confirmed a sixth-season renewal. The July 29, 2026 announcement said season five would be based on Lee Child’s Make Me; that announcement does not mean the season has aired. Paramount’s announcement gives the renewal and audience figures, while the season-five announcement names its adaptation basis.

For viewers who want to read the source behind season one, Lee Child’s Killing Floor is a natural next step. The book and series are different storytelling formats, not interchangeable versions of the same scenes.

  2. Blue Mountain State — Ritchson’s comic side

Before Reacher, Ritchson was widely associated with college-football comedy. As Thad Castle, he plays a swaggering, outrageous teammate in a role built around comic excess rather than controlled action-hero intensity. It is one of the most useful counterpoints to his later leading-man image.

  3. Titans — a substantial superhero role

Ritchson appears as Hank Hall, also known as Hawk, in this superhero series. The part gives him a recurring place in a team drama and connects his physicality to a character shaped by anger and partnership, rather than simply making him the lone central hero. It is a stronger example of his television range than a brief film appearance.

  4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire — a high-profile ensemble credit

This recognizable franchise entry puts Ritchson in a large-scale ensemble. Its cultural reach makes it an important credit, but it is not the best showcase of him as a performer: his role is much smaller than his work in Reacher or Blue Mountain State. It ranks for visibility and career context, not because screen time alone makes it his strongest performance.

Avatar: Fire And Ash (3 Disc) - 4K UHD/BD Combo + Bonus Disc + Digital
    • Return to Pandora for the third chapter of Marine turned Na’vi leader Jake Sully and his family. Reeling from one death, the Sullys set out to prevent another — aided by the Wind Traders. But on the way, they’re attacked by the Ash People, who blame Eywa for their ravaged home. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes may affect photosensitive viewers.
  5. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — action in an ensemble

This war-action film belongs among the titles that show Ritchson working in a broad, high-energy ensemble rather than carrying a series on his own. It is a useful pick for viewers following his action roles, with the caveat that an ensemble credit offers less sustained character development than a starring part.

  6. Fast X — blockbuster scale

Ritchson’s place in the Fast & Furious franchise gives him a foothold in another large action ensemble. The film’s scale and familiar series identity make it a notable credit, though the franchise spectacle and shared cast limit how much it can function as a showcase for Ritchson specifically.

    • Runtime: 155 minutes
  7. Smallville — an early superhero-TV chapter

Before his later superhero work, Ritchson appeared in Smallville, a long-running series that reimagined the world around a young Clark Kent. It helps trace the path from early television appearances to the more substantial genre roles that followed.

  8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows — a franchise action entry

This sequel broadens the action side of his filmography beyond realistic crime and war stories. Its main value in a Ritchson watchlist is range: it places him inside a stylized franchise adventure, though not in a lead role that defines the film.

  9. Ordinary Angels — a change of tone

Among his film credits, this drama is a useful contrast with the action-heavy work. It offers a different kind of project for viewers curious whether his appeal extends beyond imposing physical roles, even though it is less central to his public profile than Reacher.

  10. Blood Drive — a cult-leaning genre detour

This television series rounds out the ranking with an offbeat genre setting rather than a mainstream blockbuster. It is worth seeking out for viewers who want a less familiar corner of Ritchson’s career and a further reminder that his work has not been limited to heroic action.

What should you watch after Reacher?

Choose based on which part of Reacher you want more of, rather than expecting another series to duplicate its premise.

  • For Ritchson’s physical, high-energy presence: try Titans or the action ensembles Fast X and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
  • For a different tone from the action roles: try Blue Mountain State for comedy or Ordinary Angels for drama.
  • For more franchise television and film: Smallville and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire show earlier and ensemble-oriented genre credits.
  • For the source behind season one: read Lee Child’s Killing Floor, keeping in mind that an adaptation makes its own choices.

What did Alan Ritchson star in before Reacher?

His pre-Reacher work includes the comedy series Blue Mountain State, superhero television in Smallville and Titans, and ensemble films such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Those credits help explain why his current action-star image is only one part of a career that has moved among comedy, superhero stories, drama and franchise films.

How this ranking weighs the titles

A filmography list can make a brief supporting part look equivalent to a starring role. Here, titles with sustained opportunities for Ritchson to carry scenes rank above some better-known ensembles. Visibility and staying power still matter, but they do not substitute for performance prominence. Amazon’s cast overview and Rotten Tomatoes’ filmography and ratings page provide reference points for credits; ratings are a changing snapshot, not a final measure of quality.
