Summer Game Fest 2024 took place on Friday, June 7, 2024. The main showcase began at 2 p.m. Pacific time (5 p.m. Eastern, 10 p.m. GMT) from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles and ran for approximately two hours. It is now available as an official replay rather than a live broadcast.

Watch the official Summer Game Fest 2024 replay on YouTube. The presentation was hosted by Geoff Keighley and included announcements, trailers, release dates, gameplay footage and platform news from multiple publishers.

What was Summer Game Fest 2024?

Summer Game Fest 2024 was the fifth annual edition of Geoff Keighley’s multi-publisher games showcase. The physical event was held at the YouTube Theater in the Hollywood Park area of Los Angeles and was distributed online through YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, X, Steam and international broadcast partners.

Unlike a platform-specific presentation, Summer Game Fest brought together games from across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo ecosystems. More than 55 companies were promoted as partners before the show, although a partner-list appearance did not guarantee that a particular game would receive screen time.

The name “Summer Game Fest” can also refer to the broader June calendar of showcases, demos and industry events. The main two-hour presentation was only one part of that program. Day of the Devs, Devolver Direct and the Xbox Games Showcase were separate broadcasts with their own schedules and lineups.

SGF was sometimes compared with E3 because it occupied a similar summer-news window, but it was not a single trade show controlled by every publisher. It was better understood as a central showcase surrounded by independently produced events.

When did the showcase air?

Region Start time on June 7, 2024
Pacific Time 2 p.m.
Eastern Time 5 p.m.
GMT 10 p.m.
British Summer Time 11 p.m.
Central European Summer Time 11 p.m.

The daylight-saving distinction matters. The official venue announcement gave the start as 10 p.m. GMT. On that date, the United Kingdom was observing British Summer Time, so the local UK start was 11 p.m., not 10 p.m.

Where could viewers watch it?

The official broadcast was available through:

  • YouTube
  • Twitch
  • TikTok
  • X
  • Steam
  • International broadcast partners and publisher channels

For a replay, YouTube is the clearest option because the archived video is easy to access and typically supports timestamps. Twitch may be preferable for live chat and co-streaming, while Steam was a convenient choice for PC-focused viewers. Co-streams added commentary, but some creators could start late, pause the program or omit sections because of platform and copyright restrictions.

Use the official archive rather than an unverified re-upload. The full presentation is also distinct from shorter highlight videos, which may remove trailers, transitions or smaller announcements.

How long was Summer Game Fest 2024?

The main presentation was promoted as lasting approximately two hours. It was followed immediately by Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition, a separate program with a stronger focus on independent games.

What games were expected before the show?

Preview coverage pointed to a mixture of confirmed subjects, officially signposted appearances and likely updates. That distinction was important: a publisher being listed as a partner did not confirm a specific game, and a rumor or leak was not an announcement.

Confirmed or officially signposted subjects

  • LEGO Horizon Adventures
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
  • Batman: Arkham Shadow
  • Slitterhead
  • The First Descendant
  • Valorant on consoles
  • Monster Hunter Wilds
  • Phantom Blade Zero
  • Star Wars Outlaws
  • Metaphor: ReFantazio
  • Dune: Awakening
  • New World: Aeternum
  • Sonic X Shadow Generations
  • Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Geoff Keighley also cautioned that much of the show would involve updates to already announced games, rather than an uninterrupted sequence of brand-new reveals. That meant a trailer, release-date announcement, platform announcement or gameplay segment could be just as significant as a world premiere.

The biggest announcements and updates

LEGO Horizon Adventures

Guerrilla and LEGO announced LEGO Horizon Adventures, a playful adaptation of the Horizon universe. It was announced for PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch, making it one of the showcase’s most notable cross-platform reveals.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII

2K announced Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, the next mainline entry in the long-running strategy series. The game was announced for PC and consoles in 2025, giving strategy fans one of the event’s clearest major reveals.

Blumhouse Games

Blumhouse introduced its games publishing label and presented several horror projects. The segment expanded the company’s film identity into interactive entertainment rather than promoting one conventional blockbuster sequel.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind

Digital Eclipse revealed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, a retro-styled beat-’em-up built around the classic Power Rangers property.

Monster Hunter Wilds and Phantom Blade Zero

Monster Hunter Wilds and Phantom Blade Zero received new looks aimed at players following major upcoming action games. These were examples of the showcase’s broader mix of new footage and updates rather than entirely new game announcements.

Release dates and platform news

  • The First Descendant: A July 2, 2024 release date was announced.
  • Slitterhead: A November 8, 2024 release date was announced.
  • Valorant: Console beta information was provided for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Sonic X Shadow Generations: Release-date and platform details were shown.
  • New World: Aeternum: A console edition was announced.
  • Skate: Console playtesting was planned for fall 2024.

These announcements had different meanings. A beta was not a full launch, a console port was not a new game, and a release-date announcement did not by itself establish the game’s current availability years later.

More anticipated games featured

The presentation also included footage or updates involving Star Wars Outlaws, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Dune: Awakening, Black Myth: Wukong, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Hyper Light Breaker, Alan Wake 2: Night Springs and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.

The wider Summer Game Fest schedule

Readers planning around the full June 2024 games calendar needed to separate the main showcase from the events around it:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Friday, June 7: Main Summer Game Fest showcase, followed immediately by Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition.
  • Devolver Direct: A separate publisher presentation in the wider SGF calendar.
  • Sunday, June 9: Xbox Games Showcase, with its own stream and announcements.

The Xbox presentation was not a segment of the SGF broadcast. The same applies to Devolver Direct and other publisher or platform showcases that happened during the week.

Day of the Devs was especially relevant for viewers interested in independent games. Treating the entire week as one two-hour show would miss much of the smaller-scale and experimental work that made up the broader program.

What should viewers not assume?

  • A company on the partner list would definitely show a particular game.
  • A social-media leak would become an official announcement.
  • A title that appeared at an earlier SGF would necessarily return.
  • Every listed game would receive a world premiere.
  • A trailer meant the game was immediately available.
  • Every co-stream carried the entire event without edits or delays.

The strongest way to read the lineup was to label each item precisely: confirmed appearance, new trailer, gameplay footage, platform announcement, release date, beta information or rumor. Those categories describe materially different outcomes for players.

Was Summer Game Fest 2024 worth watching?

For viewers interested in a broad cross-section of the games industry, the showcase offered a useful single starting point: major sequels, independent projects, console announcements, release dates and updates from games already in development. It was less suitable for anyone expecting every segment to be a surprise reveal.

The most useful replay approach is to watch the full archive first if you want the event’s pacing and variety, then use the timestamps or a highlights video to revisit specific trailers. For a complete picture of that weekend, follow the separate Day of the Devs, Devolver Direct and Xbox broadcasts rather than searching for them inside the main SGF video.
