Netflix is the safest one-service choice in the U.S. in 2026, while the Disney+/Hulu bundle is usually the strongest value for families. Max is the better pick for premium television and films, Prime Video makes the most sense when you already pay for Amazon Prime, and Apple TV is excellent in short, focused bursts rather than as a giant all-purpose library.
This ranking evaluates practical household value—not catalog size alone. Prices and plan details below are U.S. signals observed August 16, 2026, and can change without notice.
Quick ranking
| Rank | Service | Best for | Useful price signal | Keep or rotate? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Netflix | Best single subscription | $8.99 with ads; $19.99 Standard; $26.99 Premium | Keep if watched frequently |
| 2 | Disney+/Hulu bundle | Best household value | $12.99 with ads; $19.99 premium bundle | Keep if both services are used |
| 3 | Max | Premium TV and movies | $10.99 with ads; $18.49 Standard; $22.99 Premium | Often worth rotating |
| 4 | Prime Video | Existing Prime members | Included with $14.99 monthly or $139 annual Prime; Ultra adds $4.99 monthly | Keep when Prime benefits matter |
| 5 | Apple TV | Concentrated prestige TV | $12.99 monthly | Usually rotate |
| 6 | Paramount+ | CBS, Star Trek, Showtime and selected sports | $8.99 Essential; $13.99 Premium with Showtime | Targeted or seasonal |
| 7 | Peacock | NBCUniversal programming and events | $7.99 Select; $10.99 Premium; $16.99 Premium Plus | Targeted or seasonal |
| 8 | Hulu alone | Current-season TV | Compare with the Disney+/Hulu bundle | Keep only for Hulu-heavy viewers |
| 9 | Disney+ alone | Families and major franchises | Verify the live U.S. checkout price | Keep when its franchises are central |
These are on-demand services. Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, Sling TV and Fubo solve a different problem and should be compared as live-TV replacements, not ranked directly beside Netflix or Apple TV.

The right question is not “Which platform has the most titles?” It is “Which platform supplies enough relevant viewing to justify its real cost?” Consider:
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- Relevant content: shows, films, sports or franchises your household will actually watch.
- Release frequency: whether new programming gives you a reason to return every month.
- Usable tier: include the cost of ad-free playback, 4K, downloads and simultaneous streams if you need them.
- Household use: check profiles, concurrent streams, downloads and account-sharing rules.
- Technical quality: 4K and HDR availability varies by title, device, plan and connection.
- Bundle efficiency: a bundle saves money only when you genuinely want every included service.
- Rotation value: some platforms are better bought for one or two months around a release.
- Sports limitations: verify rights, blackouts, local availability, event advertising and plan restrictions.
A practical calculation is:
Annual value = personally relevant viewing and live events − annual price − the cost of ads, unused months and unnecessary upgrades.
1. Netflix: best all-purpose single service
Netflix is the safest recommendation for a household that wants only one subscription. It combines frequent releases with broad coverage across original series, films, documentaries, reality programming, anime, international shows and licensed content.
The trade-off is cost. The $8.99 ad-supported plan is not equivalent to the $19.99 Standard or $26.99 Premium plans. Premium is the relevant comparison for households seeking 4K/HDR and expanded simultaneous viewing. Account-sharing and extra-member rules can also change the final bill. Recheck the current signup price at Netflix; recent third-party price reports show that plan details can change.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Best for: frequent viewers, mixed households, international programming, documentaries, reality TV and anime.
Verdict: worth the price for regular viewers, but expensive if you subscribe for only one flagship show.
2. Disney+/Hulu bundle: best value for many households
Hulu’s official page lists a Disney+/Hulu bundle at $12.99 per month with ads and a premium version at $19.99 per month. The services use their respective apps and combine Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic programming with Hulu’s current-season television, adult series, reality programming and Hulu Originals. See the official Hulu bundle page for current terms.
This is the strongest family recommendation because it serves children, franchise fans and adults with one purchase. The premium bundle is less compelling if the household rarely uses one of the two services. Separate apps and different advertising rules also remain part of the experience.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Best for: families, mixed-age households and viewers who want both franchise content and current television.
Verdict: the best household deal when both Disney+ and Hulu will be used consistently.
3. Max: best premium television and movies
Max is strongest on quality rather than sheer volume. HBO programming, Warner Bros. films, prestige dramas, acclaimed comedies and adult-oriented series give it some of the highest quality-per-hour in the market.
Reported U.S. price signals are $10.99 with ads, $18.49 for Standard and $22.99 for Premium. Higher plans add features such as improved video quality and additional viewing capabilities; sports or live programming may have separate simultaneous-stream rules. Verify the current offer at Max.
Best for: prestige-TV viewers, film fans and adults who prefer quality over a huge general-interest catalog.
Verdict: excellent for heavy HBO and movie viewers, and particularly attractive as a one- or two-month rotation.
4. Prime Video: best when Prime already earns its keep
Amazon Prime is listed at $14.99 monthly or $139 annually, with Prime Video included. Amazon’s Prime Video Ultra information lists the upgrade at $4.99 per month, or $45.99 annually for annual Prime members. Amazon says Ultra includes up to five concurrent streams, up to 100 downloads and 4K/UHD access.
Rank #3
- Stunning 4K and Dolby Vision streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Prime Video is not a clean comparison with Netflix. Its value may include shipping, shopping benefits, music and other Prime features. Its interface also places subscription titles beside rentals, purchases, add-on channels and selected live content. Ultra does not guarantee that every live event or selected ad-supported content will be commercial-free.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Best for: existing Prime members and households that use Amazon beyond video.
Verdict: strong incremental value for Prime members; difficult to justify as a video-only purchase if you watch only a few shows.
5. Apple TV: best concentrated prestige catalog
Apple’s U.S. page lists Apple TV at $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial and says subscriptions can be shared with up to five family members. Its smaller catalog is concentrated around high-production-value dramas, science fiction, comedies, limited series and original films.
Apple’s official page also identifies Friday Night Baseball and, in the U.S. beginning in 2026, every Formula 1 Grand Prix and every Major League Soccer match. That does not make Apple TV a complete sports replacement. It also does not include third-party channels, rentals or purchases searchable in the Apple TV app. Check Apple’s official page for current availability.
Best for: prestige-TV viewers, Apple households and viewers interested in its specific 2026 sports rights.
Verdict: high quality per title, but usually better as a rotating subscription than a permanent one for light viewers.

6. Paramount+: best for specific franchises and CBS content
Paramount+ combines CBS programming, Paramount films, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Star Trek, selected sports and Showtime on its premium tier. Reported price signals are $8.99 for Essential and $13.99 for Premium with Showtime. The reported increase for new subscribers began January 15, 2026; verify current plans at Paramount+.
It is a targeted service rather than the safest default. Sports availability depends on rights, geography and plan, and the base tier may not satisfy viewers seeking premium picture quality or ad-free playback.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsVerdict: worthwhile when CBS, Star Trek, Showtime, Nickelodeon or a particular sport is central to your viewing; otherwise rotate it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.7. Peacock: best for NBCUniversal programming and selected events
Peacock’s reported price signals are $7.99 for Select, $10.99 for Premium and $16.99 for Premium Plus. It is useful for NBC, Bravo, Universal films, reality programming and selected sports and live events. Current prices and features should be checked at Peacock.
Peacock can be a good low-cost secondary service, but Premium Plus is harder to justify year-round unless its network programming or sports lineup is central to your household. Live events and sports can still contain advertising even when an on-demand tier is marketed as ad-free.
Apple’s official page also lists an Apple TV and Peacock bundle beginning at $14.99 per month with Peacock Premium, or $19.99 with Premium Plus. That is useful only if you already want both services.
Verdict: strong for NBC, Bravo and specific events; rarely the best permanent general-entertainment subscription.

8. Hulu alone: valuable for current television, but compare the bundle first
Hulu is particularly useful for current-season television, FX-related programming, reality shows, adult series and network libraries. But because Hulu’s official page positions the Disney+/Hulu bundle at $12.99 with ads and $19.99 premium, standalone Hulu should be judged against what a small additional amount buys.
Keep Hulu alone when you do not want Disney+ or when your viewing is overwhelmingly Hulu-based. Otherwise, the bundle usually offers broader household utility.
9. Disney+ alone: essential for some households, narrow for others
Disney+ is the right service for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and family programming. It is less compelling as a general-purpose subscription for adults who rarely watch those brands.

Best service by viewing profile
- Only one service: Netflix.
- Family household: Disney+/Hulu bundle, with Netflix added only if several people use it.
- Movies and prestige TV: Max.
- Children and major franchises: Disney+ or the Disney+/Hulu bundle.
- Current-season television: Hulu.
- International shows and broad variety: Netflix.
- Existing Amazon Prime member: start with Prime Video before adding another service.
- Acclaimed originals in short bursts: Apple TV.
- CBS, Star Trek or Showtime: Paramount+.
- NBC, Bravo or selected live events: Peacock.
- Sports: choose by league and local rights, not by the service’s entertainment ranking.
Realistic streaming budgets
Budget household
Choose one broad service—Netflix with ads or the Disney+/Hulu ad-supported bundle—then add a targeted platform only while a priority show or event is available. Free legal services such as Pluto TV, Tubi and The Roku Channel can provide background viewing, but they are not direct substitutes for premium libraries.
Family household
Start with Disney+/Hulu. Add Netflix if multiple household members watch it frequently. Prime Video is sensible when the household already pays for Amazon Prime. Avoid stacking several children’s catalogs with overlapping programming.
Prestige-TV household
Max and Apple TV are the strongest starting pair. Add Netflix for its release volume, and rotate Paramount+ or Peacock around specific shows, films and events.
Sports household
Do not treat an entertainment streamer as a full cable replacement. Check league rights, local availability, regional sports networks, blackouts, live-event advertising, simultaneous-stream limits and whether a separate sports package is required. Apple’s MLS and Formula 1 rights are useful only to viewers who want those particular competitions in the U.S.
How to reduce the bill
- Track upcoming releases and subscribe when several desired titles are available.
- Watch priority shows and cancel before the next billing date.
- Use annual billing only for services you genuinely use throughout the year.
- Buy bundles only when you would otherwise pay for every included service.
- Check wireless, student, credit-card, device and membership benefits, but treat promotions as temporary.
- Cancel before an introductory price ends.
- Do not pay for 4K if your television, connection or viewing habits do not benefit from it.
- Remember that “ad-free” may exclude live events, promotional interruptions or selected programming.
Bottom line
For a single subscription, choose Netflix. For a family, choose the Disney+/Hulu bundle. For premium television and films, choose Max. If you already pay for Amazon Prime, use Prime Video before adding another service. Choose Apple TV, Paramount+ or Peacock when their specific shows, franchises, sports or network programming justify the monthly cost—and rotate them when they do not.
