The San Diego Arab Film Festival screened Who Killed Alex Odeh? at 6 p.m. on October 24, 2026, at the Museum of Photographic Arts at the San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA at SDMA) in Balboa Park. The event has now passed. The 83-minute documentary investigates the 1985 bombing assassination of Palestinian American activist Alex Odeh and a renewed effort to uncover who was responsible. Marwan Hamed’s 162-minute film El Sett followed at 8 p.m., with Arabic dinner available from 5:15 p.m.
What happened at the October 24 San Diego Arab Film Festival screening?
The program took place at MOPA at SDMA, 1649 El Prado, San Diego, California 92101. Who Killed Alex Odeh? began at 6 p.m., followed by El Sett at 8 p.m. Film admission and the Arabic dinner were separate purchases. KPBS listed general admission at $15, student admission at $12 and dinner at $20; Hoodline cited an $18 dinner price in another festival-wide listing, so the event-specific KPBS figure is the more precise historical reference.
Because October 24, 2026 is in the past, those tickets are not current inventory. The San Diego Arab Film Festival is supported by KARAMA, a San Diego nonprofit. Hoodline reported that the festival began in 2012 and that its 2026 edition presented eight features and eight shorts from the Arab world and its diaspora.

Its reporting combines archival footage, investigative journalism and testimony from Odeh’s family. The Jewish Film Institute identifies buried evidence such as FBI memoranda and interviews as part of the film’s examination of the case. Sundance’s official description says the killing “ignites a 40-year quest for justice” and explores the roots of a political movement that remains dangerous today. It also notes that, despite evidence and suspects identified at the time, nobody has been held accountable.

Why does the Alex Odeh case matter to this film?
Odeh’s killing is presented not only as a historical crime but also as a test of whether political violence against an Arab American community can be fully investigated. By combining family testimony with records that were not previously public, the film connects the unresolved case to debates about accountability, intimidation and the endurance of extremist movements.
That focus distinguishes the documentary from a conventional biography: its central question is who benefited from the failure to secure accountability and what renewed evidence can establish four decades later. Viewers should treat the film as an investigation and reported historical account, not as a court ruling or a claim that the case has been legally resolved.
