How the groups work

EXPEDITION

JOURNEY, ODYSSEY, QUEST, and VOYAGE are direct synonyms for an extended trip or undertaking.

HOLD DEAR

ESTEEM, PRIZE, TREASURE, and VALUE all mean to regard something highly. Here, PRIZE is a verb: to value or cherish.

Words with Y as the only vowel

MYRRH, NYMPH, RHYTHM, and SPHYNX have no A, E, I, O, or U. The puzzle treats Y as the vowel in this spelling-based group.

Names ending in K plus another word

Each answer can be split into a familiar name ending in K and a following word: FRANK + INCENSE, JACK + POT, MARK + DOWN, and NICK + NAME.

Why the groups may feel different in difficulty

The EXPEDITION synonyms are the most semantically transparent. HOLD DEAR is less obvious if PRIZE first reads as a noun rather than a verb. The Y group calls for checking spelling rather than meaning, while the final group depends on spotting name-plus-word divisions inside familiar compounds. Connections uses four color-coded groups of four; TechRadar notes that players can make up to four mistakes (TechRadar’s June 2, 2025 guide).
