Netflix removed Black Mirror: Bandersnatch from its interactive catalog on May 12, 2025. The move was part of the reported shutdown of Netflix’s remaining interactive specials, rather than a cancellation of the Black Mirror series itself.
For viewers in the United States, the film is currently unavailable to stream, according to JustWatch’s U.S. listing. Netflix still has a public title page, but that page does not guarantee that the film can be played in a particular country, profile or account.

When did Netflix remove Bandersnatch?
The reported removal date was May 12, 2025. Bandersnatch left alongside Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, the other remaining Netflix interactive special. Contemporaneous reporting described the change as the end of Netflix’s interactive-special lineup.
Older headlines may say Netflix “is removing” or “will remove” the film. For readers checking its status in 2026, the accurate wording is that Netflix removed it in 2025.

This was not the removal of an ordinary episode from the Black Mirror catalog. Bandersnatch was a feature-length interactive story: viewers made choices that changed the route through the narrative and could lead to different endings. Netflix’s original description identified it as a story with multiple endings.
Why did Netflix remove it?
The strongest explanation in the available reporting is technological. The special relied on interactive functionality built into Netflix’s video apps and player. Reporting linked its removal to Netflix phasing out that interactive-special infrastructure while shifting strategic attention toward mobile and cloud gaming.
Netflix has not provided, in the sources available here, a detailed title-specific statement confirming that this was the sole reason. Netflix’s general help pages say titles can leave because of licensing agreements, regional rights, popularity and cost. Those policies describe how the catalog generally works, but they do not prove that licensing was the specific reason Bandersnatch disappeared.

The clearest conclusion is therefore that Bandersnatch was retired as part of a platform decision affecting Netflix’s interactive technology—not that Black Mirror was canceled or that the film was judged creatively unsuccessful.
Is Bandersnatch still on Netflix?
Not in the United States, based on current availability tracking. JustWatch’s U.S. page currently lists the film as unavailable and records its last Netflix availability through August 2025. That tracking history differs slightly from the May 12, 2025 departure report, so the safest description is that Netflix announced or displayed the removal in May 2025, while third-party tracking recorded availability in some form until August.
Catalogs are country-specific. A title can appear in one region and not another, and Netflix may continue to display an indexed title page after playback rights or technical support have changed. Netflix explains that regional rights, VPN use, profile maturity settings and blocked-title restrictions can affect what viewers can find or play. A public URL is not proof of current streaming access.

If the title appears but will not play
- Check the country associated with the account and turn off any active VPN.
- Try a profile without restrictive maturity settings and check whether the title is blocked in profile controls.
- Refresh the Netflix app, sign out and back in, and test on a supported device.
- Do not subscribe solely because the title page loads; confirm that a playable listing appears in your country first.
These steps can resolve a regional or profile problem, but they cannot restore a platform-wide removal of the interactive experience.

A 2025 report said Netflix might return Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend through the Games tab in an emulated form. The proposed approach would move the interactive functionality away from the standard video player while attempting to preserve viewer choices.
That return was not confirmed by the official Netflix sources cited here, and current U.S. availability tracking does not show a playable Bandersnatch listing. It should therefore be treated as an unconfirmed plan or report, not as evidence that the film has returned. There is also no basis for calling the removal permanent: current absence does not prove that Netflix or another rights holder can never restore it.

Netflix Games are generally included with an active Netflix membership without separate game fees, ads or in-app purchases, but Netflix’s official games information does not establish that Bandersnatch is currently one of those games. A Netflix Games title, if one appears in the future, would also need to be verified by country, device and account.

The timing made the decision more noticeable. Bandersnatch was one of Netflix’s best-known experiments in interactive storytelling, and its fictional game company Tuckersoft and character Colin Ritman became part of the show’s wider mythology.

That connection does not make Plaything a direct sequel, nor does it mean that Bandersnatch remains available. It is more accurate to describe the two as connected through shared continuity and themes. Netflix promoting related interactive material while the original interactive film was unavailable made the catalog change feel particularly conspicuous.
Can you legally watch it somewhere else?
For the United States, the available listing does not show a current streaming option, and the reviewed sources do not establish an authorized standalone rental, purchase, disc release or alternate interactive version.
That means viewers should not assume that a conventional digital copy, fan-made compilation or linear edit would reproduce the official experience. The filmed scenes and alternate branches are not the same thing as the interactive presentation that delivered them.
Unofficial downloads, fan-hosted interactive players and scene archives may be incomplete, altered or unsafe, and may raise copyright and malware risks. They are not reliable legal replacements. If you want to check for a legitimate release, use the official Netflix title page and a reputable country-specific availability tracker before paying for a subscription.
What Netflix’s removal means
Netflix did not cancel Black Mirror. It retired the interactive platform that hosted one of the series’ most ambitious experiments. The special was reported removed on May 12, 2025, and its official interactive version is not currently confirmed as available in the United States.
