It offered licensed films, television, web series, sports and news, including more than 10,000 hours of content announced at launch. However, MX Player’s international OTT service is no longer operating: the company says services for users outside India ended on August 12, 2024.
What MX Player launched on March 26, 2020
Times Internet, MX Player’s parent company, announced an international expansion across seven countries:

The business model was AVOD (advertising-supported video on demand): viewers did not pay a subscription fee, and advertising funded the service.
What viewers could watch
A large licensed catalog
The launch announcement claimed more than 10,000 hours of licensed content. Partners named by Times Internet included FilmRise, Shoreline, Screen Media, Sonar Entertainment and Tricoast. That figure was a company statement from 2020, not a current or independently audited catalog measurement.

Local-market programming
TechCrunch reported that MX Player planned locally relevant licensed movies and shows for each market. The international rollout did not initially include MX-produced originals; those originals were associated with the company’s India service rather than the first international catalog.
Where it was available
The launch announcement listed Android, iOS and Amazon Fire TV Stick support. That meant viewers could use mobile apps or watch on a compatible television through Amazon’s streaming device. Platform availability described the 2020 launch and should not be read as evidence that the international MX Player app still works today.

How large was MX Player at the time?
Times Internet said MX Player had more than 175 million monthly active users in India in 2020. CEO Karan Bedi also described more than 100 million monthly users across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the United States and the United Kingdom, while the company identified a potential additional 100 million users across international markets. These were historical, company-reported figures and were not presented as independent audits.
Does MX Player still work outside India?
No. MX Player’s official support notice states: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be discontinuing our OTT services for our users outside India effective 12 Aug 2024.” The United States, United Kingdom and the other launch markets therefore belong to MX Player’s international-service history, not its current availability.

What happened to the international service?
MX Player withdrew its OTT offering outside India effective August 12, 2024. The support notice gives the end date but does not provide a more detailed public explanation than “unforeseen circumstances.” As a result, older pages describing MX Player as a currently available free US or UK service are out of date.

MX Player did launch a genuinely free, ad-supported movie and television service in the US, UK and five other countries in 2020. It stood out for its licensed, locally targeted catalog and support for phones and Amazon Fire TV Stick. That international offering ended on August 12, 2024; only claims about the historical launch should be treated as applicable to those markets.
