Jon Ossoff’s investigative production company worked with Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on an undercover film investigation into corruption in African soccer. The 2018 project exposed a senior FIFA official accepting a $65,000 bribe and was followed by public threats against members of the reporting team. On January 16, 2019, Anas’s collaborator Ahmed Hussein-Suale Divela was shot dead in Accra. An October 2026 report says no one had been convicted in connection with the killing; it does not establish that the film or any particular threat caused the murder.

What did Jon Ossoff’s films investigate?

Before entering electoral politics, Ossoff led Insight: The World Investigates, a London-based investigative television production company. He served as its managing director and chief executive from 2013 to 2021, working with reporters on investigations of corruption and other abuses. His television credits included Living With Ebola, projects in the Africa Investigates series, and Stacey Dooley Investigates.

The project that connects his documentary career to Divela’s murder was an investigation of corruption in African soccer. From 2016 to 2018, Anas’s team, including Divela, conducted undercover stings on soccer officials. In June 2018, the resulting documentary and a companion BBC production about how it was made were released. The Washington Post’s October 2026 account describes footage of FIFA’s second-highest official in Africa accepting a $65,000 bribe.

The investigation had consequences beyond the film: Ghana’s national soccer association was dissolved, referees were suspended, and a senior FIFA official resigned. The project therefore drew attention not only to alleged individual misconduct but to the institutions responsible for governing the sport.

Who was Ahmed Hussein-Suale Divela?

Divela was a Ghanaian investigative journalist who worked with Anas’s reporting team on the undercover soccer investigations. He was a collaborator in the reporting operation—not simply a person connected to it after the fact—and was among the journalists exposed to the risks that followed the film’s release.

On January 16, 2019, two attackers riding a motorbike shot Divela through his car window in Accra. Ossoff described the loss as “I’ve never been more devastated about anything in my professional life.” He also said, “It was everything that I hate — corrupt people who were exposed for their corruption who retaliate by killing a journalist.” Those statements convey Ossoff’s view of the killing; they do not by themselves establish who ordered or carried it out.

Did the corruption films lead to Divela’s murder?

The sequence is clear: the investigation was released in June 2018, threats against the reporting team followed, and Divela was killed in January 2019. The connection between those events is a serious concern, but the available account does not establish that the film caused the murder or identify a proven motive.

The Washington Post reports that Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong publicized details about the team and made threatening remarks on television. The report quotes him saying, “If you meet him somewhere, slap him … beat him,” followed by, “Whatever happens, I’ll pay.” Those remarks are relevant context for the threats against the journalists. They are not proof that Agyapong ordered Divela’s killing, and the cited account does not report a conviction establishing that he did so.

Was Divela’s murder ever solved?

The October 2026 report says no one had been convicted in connection with Divela’s killing. That is a statement about the case’s reported legal outcome, not proof that investigators have never identified suspects or pursued leads. The account does not provide a fuller case record, so it would be misleading to claim more about the investigation’s status than the report establishes.

What else did Ossoff produce, and where can viewers watch it?

Ossoff’s television work extended beyond the soccer investigation. The named credits include Living With Ebola, Africa Investigates, and Stacey Dooley Investigates; the projects covered subjects including Ebola, ISIS, and other abuses. The material available about these credits does not establish that Ossoff personally operated the camera or conducted every interview. His documented role was leading the production company and working with international reporters.

The soccer investigation also had a companion BBC film about its making. No current streaming service, physical edition, or other reliable viewing source is established here, so availability may depend on a broadcaster’s archive or regional licensing and cannot be promised. A title appearing in a production credit is not the same thing as a film being available to watch now.

What happened to Insight after Ossoff entered politics?

Ossoff formally left Insight in February 2021 after winning his Senate seat and transferred ownership to colleagues, according to the October 2026 account. That same report says Omidyar Network awarded the company a $350,000 grant in 2015. U.S. financial-disclosure documents put the value of Ossoff’s company stake at between $1 million and $5 million; that is a reported valuation range, not a stated sale price.

The film-and-murder chronology is distinct from any current campaign claims. The supported account is that Ossoff led an investigative production company, worked with international journalists, and later moved into electoral politics; the documentary’s consequences and Divela’s killing should be described on their own documented terms.
